Want a part for my bike... nothing special, small electrical item, about $300-350, about $250 from the states, plus less than $50 freight, so either way similar dollars.

Thought I'd get it locally, $50 extra doesn't really bother me, and I need a few bucks worth of dyno time with them some time soon anyway, so keen to build a relationship in any case. Plus Katman et all have made some good points about supporting the local industry.

It's Monday. made the call to find a part, they'd heard of them (they're the agents) but haven't had one in stock at any stage, they'll have to get a price. "No worries mate, here's my number, I'll ring you on Wednesday if I haven't heard from you". "No need I'm told, you'll definitely have heard from me before then!" I'm told. That's what I like to hear :first:

Wednesday arvo haven't heard anything, brought stuff in NZ before so really not surprised, so I rang back and left my number as the joker was busy with another customer. Have sold parts before, and know it can get hectic, so I understand that... that's why all parts people have a book to keep track of all these things

It's nearly lunch time on Thursday, still no word

The real piss of here is that if I'd ordered it from Cali, it'd be here on Monday morning, for less money

Not looking for advice, just having a moan... maybe my panties are too tight, maybe I'm justifiably pissed off. Maybe I'm just fucked off with myself as I knew this would happen if I tried to buy something locallly :buggerd:

Keen to know what your next move would be? /edit: Just cause I know some of you guys will have some funny suggestions that'll brighten my day :D

I would contact Robert Taylor for a timely reminder on why it so good for you to deal with NZ suppliers.

i would take one of their demo bikes out and give it a raping, take all the tools out of the toolkit, swap all the good plastics over with my scratched ones, and take it back with a bald tyre.

Depends how much patience you're prepared to demonstrate.
But I know how you feel - I generally keep my word, so it really fucks me off when others don't. (That's why I'm so grumpy). :buggerd:

i would ring him up and make it clear what your next move is gonna be if doesnt come through WITH A GOOD PRICE NOW!Not about the money mate, if it were I'd have ordered it from the states straight out of the blocks  There's an upgraded model of this item, I would've happily paid the $400 asking price on that if I could have it in a timely fashion (no stock either sadly).

They were unhappy with themselves for letting me down, and made a few phone calls and rang me back quite promptly. Doesn't matter in the end, they're not available locally, and the supplier only orders once a month, so my saving money and time by buying from the states was the recommended course of action. I appreciated the honesty (about the supply line) rather than being fed a line, I expect they'll still be getting my business come dyno time :scooter:

nz retail sucks donkey dick, Rob and katman need to take a differnt view, not force people to buy nz made becasue its locally made - support kiwis etc, they should be changing there service so that kiwi is better.

people should always go where they get the best service. I hate being treated like shit in NZ stores.

note, i had rob taylor work on my forks, he did a very good job and was on time - I reconmend him for all suspension work. - he does have a bussiness that is better than ording from overseas. I have no experiance with katmans work, but im sure its top quality. Im not saying these people have bad service or work ethics just commenting on their views on buying from overseas.

Yeah, but we're a small country, I don't expect everything to be just sitting on the shelf costing them tax. We also need to close ranks a little with the way the economy is going, been a few bike shops drop off recently which is never cool (unless it's Casbolts I guess ). The suppliers ordering once a month is a bit crazy given our relative isolation and the consumers hunger for instant (within reason) gratification.

Tell me about it.

I can't get a pair of Bridgestone BT45s in the correct sizes for a Yamaha Scorpio until March.

Why?

Who the fuck knows.

Probably because there's no market for that particular oddball 18-inch rubber; I imagine that most Scorpio riders don't know that proper tyres will stop them falling off.

Or maybe they're just happy to swallow the typical Cycletreads "this other size that we happen to have in stock will do you just fine, no, really it will, you won't notice a thing" bullshit.

All in stock in the states, be here about this time next week... sooner if customs don't dick around with it.

As an aside, I brought a couple of other small goodies too... testament to the ability of a great website to encourage impulse buying. New Zealand business needs to take note.

Problem here is the NZ retailers have to go to the NZ agent, who of course does not have stock then the local agent has to go to the Australasian main agent, who messes around getting them a reply a month down the track you find they can get it 6 weeks delay etc, rather unhelpful.

I heard of a case where the NZ supplier ordered so many units of a popular electronic device that was taking the world by storm and it was duly shipped to the main agent in Aus, they found they were running low and fast as this item was so popular so they grabbed most of the shipment to NZ leaving just 8 units to head over here out of an order of thousands, when the NZ agent kicked up a stink they were told tough cheese we needed them and we have now sold then all.

You can't win - I have been dicked around by overseas retailers a few times. At least you have a bit more say if the product wrong / faulty and you bought it in NZ.

Also in their favour, other KBers have dealt with them with excellent results too.

PC3 was my guess too. And I didn't pay $700, more like half that.
Oh that's right, I got mine from the USA...

Is it one of those LCD handle bar mounted screens for a PC3?

Yep, it's pretty ridiculous. I've waited since the 12th of July for a footpeg for my motard... that's Husqvarna though.

Can't remember how long exactly, but it was at least a couple of months to get my mitts on a new wing mirror for the Kwaka. I don't hope it'll take them that long to get me a new waterpump if I'm going to need it.

I must say however, that the long delivery times have not been caused by the people I've been dealing with myself. Rather it's the NZ importers that aren't on the balls and as a result they make their agents look bad.

I thought the closest one was Ashburton?

Mate needed a Bosch part for his bike recently. Local dealer quoted him $250. He later sourced it from overseas for less than half that.

You can try, and I do, to keep the business local but when they just take the piss, f'k 'em.
