View Full Version : Bronz's articles in KiwiRider

Has anyone else noticed the sound like raving loonies that are dreaming? They're forever going on about the 'sheeple' and how pubic transport should be replaced by everyone being on motorbikes. I don't want everyone else being on motorbikes! We've got enough dicks making our ACC levies go up and giving bikers a bad rep. It seems to me like Bronz have turned into the whining minority that will declare at the slightest provocation "you're only saying that 'cause I'm a biker!".

They are doing a service and I don't think we shouldn't be supporting them. But I reckon they need to cool their jets and stop with the conspiracy theory ramblings.

FWIW, Dave, this column is one that I now ignore. It's boring, repetitive, and non-constructive.

Once you start giving pet derogatory names to the majority of the populace, you've lost your cause.

I'm sure the writer of the article (and all members of BRONZ) would welcome your constructive suggestions! As far as I know BRONZ has not yet had its first meeting of 2009 - I would expect that to be in February. Perhaps you might like to send an email laying out your concerns?

You could try the Auckland president: les.mason@gmail.com

It might be a case of getting a realistic solution, finding the middle ground. If bronz went in there asking for what they realistically could get, they'd probably find themselves getting only part of that...

Agreed. Dunno who they think they represent
A few choice policies from their webbysite.
>Vehicle Inspection Authorities, rather than vehicle repairers, would give a better and more uniform service
Eh? WTF? Better service? I should coco.

>There is no proven benefit from compulsory driver/rider training, and the instigation of such policies, pending evidence to the contrary, needs to be revisited;
WTF? Are they fuckin serious? There's shitloads of evidence that compulsory driver training is beneficial.

>A provisional type license to allow motorcyclists to attend training schools is seen as a necessity;
Really? Requiring training schools to provide motorcycles for students to train on would be more sensible.

>There needs to be an equity in the testing procedure with no unreasonable inhibiting factors placed in the way of motorcyclists;
Nope. They're harder to control and far more likely to spit off and injure/kill rider.

I think BRONZ lost the plot over 25 years ago when they announced that they supported helmet laws and would not do anything to challenge them

Well, how about BRONZ accepting the fact that Motorcycling is experiencing something of a crisis at the moment - and - not having BRONZ 'spokespeople' claiming that members of the public who vocally condemn motorcyclist's behaviour are doing so, not because they actually believe what they're saying, but rather, because they're just loonies.

Oh yes, when BRONZ gave up on their "right to decide" campaign of opposing compulsory helmet use.

Nope

I can see how you might think so - especially being so close to this.

I applaud your passion and determination to make the differences you feel are necessary - I've just been here before, many times

Over the last few decades I've been involved to various degrees in responses to govt. initiatives/probes/inquiries/even full blown "clamp downs" on the following:

4wding

offroad racing

jetskis

microlights

blah, blah blah

they all seemed incredibly important and urgent at the time and many people felt their freedom to exercise their particular choice of hobby was in dire jeopardy.

I daresay you and most others here missed all of them and you could go out tomorrow and happily participate in any one of the above in blissful ignorance.

trust me - if 4wding could survive 9 years of Jeanette Fitzsimons all cosy with Labour then motorcycling has no crisis at the moment.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that people shouldn't be proactive and lead by example with reasonable behaviour on the roads - I just think its an overstatement to compare the silly season coverage of a few idiots equals a concerted attack on, or crisis for, motorcycling.

Some people have a respectful relationship with their parents that extends into mentoring and friendship.

I have more respect for people who manage to transition from a parent/child relationship into a meaningful adult one than I do for people with a pat putdown. BRONZ is not against driver or rider training, you may have heard of RRRS, we believe in it, we're out there doing it - not just moaning about it on the Internet from an armchair.
Again, I challenge you to provide me proof, not heresay or anecdotal evidence, that driver training helps reduce accidents and/or mortality.

Having just had the opportunity today to read the last two BRONZ articles in KiwiRider I have to say that the constant references to "cagers" and "sheeple" smacks of total condescension

Just took the opportunity to read the BRONZ column in the Jan KR myself this morning and must say, in typical katman fashion you are over reacting.

Cagers and sheeple. How many of these people that he refers to read KR?

Now sure he missed a few opportunities, like pointing out that busses have a higher weight per passenger (even fully loaded) than a car and thus create even more pollution per person.
He also missed the point that busses create congestion where none exists. For those of you who don't live in Auckland - busses don't stop in bus stops during peak times, they stop in the lane adjacent to the bus stop to allow passengers on. Each stop creates a compression wave in the traffic and ensures that the next 100 or more motorists have to slow or stop at about that point. Often 2 busses will play leap frog stopping at alternate stops. This means the back bus is always pulling out into the right lane to go passed the stopped one in front. Again, this causes a compression wave, but crippling traffic flow in both lanes.

But despite missing a few points, it wasn't a bad read and sent a message - even though it was preaching to the converted.

It was a far better column than some old guy painfully (for the reader) trying to fill a page with waffle just to say "you need to be able to trust your tyres". This column will do far more damage to our image if read by the sheeple or cagers as it will confirm the image that you try so hard to defend - that we are all brain dead morons.
