Please help - Yamaha Zeal won't start!

Maybe somebody out there can help me with my Yamaha Zeal? I just bought it and already it has had more then enough problems the number one problem being that it wont start. When i press the engine start button there is no response at all and sometimes it will just randomly cut out when I am in low gears. Also when it is in neutral and i put the kick stand down it will cut off, I know there is a kick stand sensor but it didn't use to do that and it makes me wonder if it is something electrical getting worse. I tried the battery as well, charged it and took in to red baron to test the charging system and the mechanic said all fine so I am truly stumped. Also took apart the switch block and nothing seems amiss there? any ideas I really don't know where to go from here apart from back to the dealer(this will be second time in a week lol)..Oh and I nearly forgot to say that it does come on when it is kick stated so that makes me wonder again because it wouldn't necessarily work when kick started if it was something to do with the electrics would it...arrrrg did i buy a piece of crap>???!!!haha. thanks...

The kick stand switch wire may be causing the cutting out. Make sure it is not flapping around in the breeze/loose when the kick stand is down.
If it does start if kickstarted, suggests a connection on the starter motor, or the starter motor itself. If you can find the starter motor, check the connections are not loose.
The little things (problems) always cause bother if you don't know what you're looking for...

okay the mystery thickens. The bf just tried putting switching the ignition fuse round and then it started easy as so we thought Ah ha that musta been it, but then we switched the old one back in and it still started. Do you think we got to the bottom of the problem or was it just a coincidence because that bike has been nothing but random? If it was the fuse is it possible to get faulty fuses that work on and off like that or is it possible that there was some dirt or something blocking the fuse and causing it not to work? I just really want to figure out what is wrong with my bike because i cant enjoy it at all never knowing when it is going to konk on me...

Faulty fuse connection it would seem. Most likely the culprit. Loose fuses will cause cut out. Ensure fuse connectors are holding the fuses firmly...

well apparently it wasnt the fuse because this morning i went out to start her and back to square one...i really am lost for ideas now...

Bypass the sidestand switch and see what happens

but if it was the side stand sensor it wouldn't start when push started would it? or can they be really funny like that? Man I want to get this sorted the coro loop beckons me...

Just eliminate it for now, a question though... when it cuts out is it just the motor or do the lights etc flick off as well?

Older Yamaha electrics are notoriously dodgy. Is there one of those four way (or 6 way) plug in connectors near that fuse? If so pull it apart and odds are it will be yucky insde. It will be something like that. Pull apart any plug in connector you can see and make sure thay are bright and shiney and sparkling inside (the metal pin bits I mean) . They get yucky inside and when that happens they won't work, but often just giving them a bit of a wiggle (usually, accidentaly, maybe not even realising) will make it work, for a bit.

It is always just the engine that cuts out the lights etc still stay on fine...It ended up getting taken back to the dealer today anyway, figuring out what is wrong is doing my head in although I cant wait to find out what it is. It prob is a case of something being mucky and messed up electrically but man i really really hope it doesn't take long...in the mean time they lent us a 125cc scooter as a loan bike which cracks me up!!!hahaha. I never thought id relive the old scooter days!!! thanks for all of the advice though, i have been glued to Kiwi biker awaiting replies in the hopes of curing my poor bike...hopefully this time when I get it back it wont die 500m down the road on taking it home!!!
