I received a letter yesterday from BRC Marketing and Social Research, on behalf of ACC. They are doing some research with NZ motorcyclists, and "randomly selected your details from the LTSA's Motor Vehicle Register".

They may be contacting me over the next couple of weeks to make a time to do a short telephone survey.

Anyone else had one of these?

I'll post when I've done the survey.

Nope, but I used to work for BRC as a telephone interviewer - ys I was 1 of those annoying people who would alsways call up at dinner time and do a "5 minute" survey that takes 25 minutes.

BRC are a good lot though and generally the times they say their telephone surveys take are accurate.

Let us know what sort of questions they're asking you.

A freind of mine got one. I wonder if he fits their demographic- he's 50+
EDIT: Wooops- haven't met you Linda. Not suggesting you're 50+....not that there's anything wrong with that...oh crap.

I received the letter a few weeks ago, and the phone call a couple of nights ago.

There I was ready to answer questions in the aid of motorcycling.... :scooter:

....but they only needed responses from people under 25 as they'd already filled their over 25 quota! :weep:

Tells you something about the rider demographic! ;)

Is one of the questions "Do you mind that we upped the ACC levy on bikes to twice that of cars the same week it was revealed we were paying Private Investigators to spy on, and video tape, our clients?"

If so, are options: "A) NO, Don't mind; B) Of course not; C)Go Hard, You Guys Rock; D) Hit us with more Levies, please, we have too much money."

Telephone surveys? Luxury.

I tried cold-call insurance telemarketing on commission once (I got paid $20 for each person who agreed to make an appointment with the broker). I was young and poor and needed the cash.

I still feel slightly unclean about it.

This has caused a permanent shift in my ideas as to the depths to which people will stoop in the pursuit of the demon coin. Have you tried solvol and a wire brush yet??

Yea i got a letter too, might have something to do with being on ACC at the mo, did a survey a couple of years ago to, but can't remember what the hell it was about, dont think it's anything to do with age as i'm 12 but it might come into it at some point.

Yes I got the letter and have answered the survey (must have been one of the 50+s to fill up the quota). Opening speel by the interviewer was a bit off ie "are you aware that motorcyclists are 10x more likely to have a road accident than other road users". The rest of the questions were mostly about are you aware of what safety gear can be used and how much do I use. Open section at end for comments so said that some people ride for 25+ years with no mishaps and it is a good thing for the import duty to be removed from mbike helmets and it should be removed from all bike safety gear.

Hope someone is listening.

Now wouldnt that be a good idea! What they lost in duty should be well covered by the saving in medical costs if everyone could afford good quality safety gear. Write to ACC and suggest it. :)

Opps, sorry Redstar - I must admit I wondered if it had been done but was (honesty is the best policy!) too lazy to do a search. I will do so now and have a look.

I phoned them yesterday, and sure enough, it's the under-25's they want to survey this time around.

Interesting to hear the comment about "10 times more likely...."

Jimmie: I too certainly hope they listened. Sounds like all good stuff that you said.

Yes well I can't say I was ever that desperate for money.

It's funny how knowing people that do thoese sorts of jobs makes you think differently about the poor sucker on the end of the line calling you.

How about all prospective cage drivers should be made to do a bike test first and experience 6-12 months on the road before being allowed anywhere near a cage ? :angry2:

It'll enable them to be more considerate, observant etc.

Why do they have to ring just at dinner time? Surely common sense would state that if you want people to actually do a telephone survey, don't ring at meal times. Hence to get compliance and to aviod the sort of phrases like "piss off"! etc etc. :angry2:

I got one of these at the start of the year...

Asked a whole lot of shit about the riding gear I wear, how important I think it is, years of experience, accidents, etc.

At the end they asked me some open-ended thing like: what do you think would aid improvement in motorcycle safety the most...to which I answered better rider training I think (after being let loose on the road with a 180km/h motorcycle and all of 3 hours experience under my belt...could've been better prepared, but I made it :) )

heh, I was about to make a thread on this...

yep, I'm a speshal one, got one of the letters... can't wait :devil2:

lets see:
- everybody should spend time on a bike, raise awareness, people would be better drivers
- 10x more likely?? Thats because there are soo many cars aiming for us :crybaby:
- legislative costs are higher for us, yet we damage the road less (ie, v trucks and SUVs), less polution, less congestion
