yep, in true SMC fashion the three of us got to the pub just in time to have a breif chat before everyone left - then stayed until our new drunken harley riding friend decided it was time to walk home....
it was 1am, so we decided to leave too after 3 straight hours of shit talking without making a single purchase:D

No, there were two at the BP Kumeu ...
And then one on the road north.
'twasn't a bad short blatt, pretty cold though.
New gloves held hand temp to slightly chilled rather than frozen painfully solid (ie they work). My 5 layer strategy worked well up top, and I was glad of the balaclava, two pairs of socks and the liner in my trou...:cold:
Baby VTR was glad of a run.
I'm sure there's been domestics in teh shed, with 3 bikes cooped up in there for the best part of 2 weeks with no outside time...

right, I think we need to have a little talk with the petrol tap bandit who clearly hasn't considered that not all taps work the same:
for the SECOND time now, my tap has been left in a half way to off position. the result? reserve is left open. both times i checked it as the trip meter passed the usual 200km mark where reserve should kick in.
tonight, probably due to recent pillioning, reserve ran out unexpectedly short.
this could have been avoided if the trip meter was set at the correct time the tank met reserve.
end result: me and danae had a very long push along the motorway when we should have been at BP kumeu filling up the tank, which now has 3L of Mobil fuel that smells like varnish. we also had to bump start the bike (very difficult on empty carbs) as the battery went flat trying to keep us visible while in the emergency lane/offramp.
cheers, dickhead. next time check it is in the OFF position.
this also applies to the time my bike magically got onto reserve, luckily i found out soon enough.
Ragingrob
28th May 2009, 19:58
I agree fuel taps shouldn't be played with. Last time mine was, my bike started cutting out when I was splitting between two lanes of traffic on the motorway on ramp, not a fun feeling having to try and cut across in between two cars and across a bloody truck lane with power rapidly dying.
Danae
28th May 2009, 20:21
Lots of fun pushing the riffer to the sound of "Celebrate Good Times" playing at the petrol station. ]: Thankfully two kind samaritans helped and we got it started. I've never had so much exercise in such a short space of time, excluding dirtbiking cos that was actually fun.

heh, I ran outta gas too. Some kind person went to a petrol station and came back with some gas, and jaffa and sam found me.
Got a bit of fuel in, started it up, and got to a petrol station, filled up, all good, went on the ride, all good, had fun, all good, coming back and wondering if we were taking tunnel or not, and ended up taking tunnel, all good, go to change down a gear in tunnel, wait, why am i not hitting my gear lever.
Look down by my left foot, its hanging off. Stop at next exit by orewa, and sure enough, the rod that goes from the gear lever to the actual gear um, whats the word, yeah, thats fallen off. And I'm in sixth (fifth after Baddog managed to make it change a gear). So we push it to the top, i do a bit of running adn clutch it in fifth. Luckily, its got some low down power so could keep it running fine all the way home. All lights were green.

epic fail
Didnt you tell me this @ 1pm?
(you still must've been running late as i left late and didnt see ya pushing)
it ran out of gas 1km short of the lincon rd offramp, on the way home.
important point being it was at 30km on the reserve trip meter since i had realised the tap bandit had struck, and 2km short of a BP station. normally should be able to get 58km (from experience)
further note: the mobil gas smelt like it was fairly well past it's use by date. bike had a slight misfire until i filled her up with bp98. on the way home from the pub i saw a few cleaning trucks at the very same mobil station. next time i think i'll put some in a jar and get it tested.

29th May 2009, 01:29
oh, and after all the effort pushing (with gear on as we were on the side of the motorway) i had to put all our inner linings in the washing machine, and then dryer....
of course, taking my cellphone out of the liner pocket BEFORE putting it through the washing machine and dryer, may have been a good idea:pinch:
so any attempts to txt me tomorrow probably won't work

the lcd is a bit funky and the vibrator broke
was it off when it went thru the wash? cos that greatly increases its chances of survival :) and i would guess thats how it kinda survived

The lights on my dash died so I couldn't see the speedo or tacho?

considering that would've required me to turn it off, then put it back into the pocket, NO it was not off!
luckily the battery, while wet, didn't get shorted and didn't overheat in the dryer

i should rephrase my question... could your phone have been battery dead before it made it into the wash? i would never expect you to do any effort of any kind towards achieving anything andrew, so i did not really mean to ask if you had turned it off :) just if it could have been off :)

A mangina may be well suited to your frikin tiny balls, and could prevent tank squishage of aforementioned frikin tiny balls. :bleh: however, the sitting on top of frikin tiny balls may prove troublesome as well, but at least consistent and predicatable force.
Have there been any changes to this ride? Westgate Shell, around 630pm? Has been too long since the ER6 had West-Side tarmac loving...

Riding the NSR along the western motorway around 6.30 pm, big massive 8 car pile up along the Western Springs turn off, then 1 km down the road just before you hit the Greart Nrth Rd turn off there was another pile up.
I wonder how fucken close do people drive their cars?
Got to Westgate around 6.45 pm and met a few of those Thurs night ride peeps, jetted off to Kumeu and go there at 7pm. Wondered the hell everybody was, so I jetted back home the NSR fangging it all the way home....

i found a magical trick to avoid the cold!!
i found that putting a light jacket/ski jacket or sumthin under ur leathers (or wateva u use) works ridiculously well. i had a t-shirt, light jacket and leather on and was warmer than wen i had a thermal, 2-tshirts, 'windbreaker', thick hoodie and leather jacket on
simplicity ftfw!!

Oh yeah, a car almost ran into me today. Partially my fault. They were slowing down heaps in front of me, and I got impatient and went up the side of them to overtake (still in the lane). yah, just at the top turning left towards gull, and it went no power, die. Switched to reserve (I WAS on normal too, like a smart person), and it wouldn't start. So I pushed it up the little bit of a hill to the gas station.
Tried to turn it on a few times, nothing.
Switched tap again, tried again, nothing.
Caught for a bit with choke, and was holding, at 5k rpm which should mean its fine for idle, but when changed to idle it just died. Then it wouldn't start again.
Filled up with $5 gas (Stupid pre-pay can go die), let it sit for a while, tried again with fuel tap in either position, still nothing. Tried a push start, and it just went 'brrrrrrrrrr' nothing, wouldn't catch.
Then texted squig and jaf, waiteed a while, txted again, sat the bike upright and turned it on and heard my fuel pump making its tut-tut-tut noise, when that stopped put on a bit of choke, tried ignition, and it started.
Albeit with only 3 cylinders from the sound it was making.
Then after a tiny bit of revving the 4th caught on, and was fine on the way home, except for one point where i heard popping noises. Was a bit worried so pulled over, took it easy on revs, no noises, brought it back up and still no popping noises, and none more the whole way home. Weird
