What time are you thinking of leaving? We are only on road bikes so we may leave you when it comes to gravel (we're brave, but not that brave).

Thinking of leaving at about 8am from Wainuiomata. Will be heading down to Tinui (before Castlepoint) and then linking back onto Route 52 to Pongaroa, then Porangahau. Will be heading the back way to the site from Poragahau along the gravel.

I would definitely suggest splitting off at Masterton and going up route 52. Its an awesome road to ride.

There is a booking number for the ferry FA5431 which gives the rates at $38 rider, $35 for the motorcycle, each way, return should be $146

er sorry I assume you are two -up now

Thanks Carla. I've never met Eugene, but the cape might offer slipstreaming effects, not to mention the ability to displace cagers in the way...

There's going to be 3 - 5 of us. We're not sure exactly when we'll leave. Probably won't be early morning as some of us have to do a half day at work first. We may not end up leaving until 1pm ish... or I might encourage them to feel "sick" on Friday morning....

Why is it that whenever someone mentions cape, everyone knows my name?? Am I that famous :first:

I shall be back again with the cape, and on the XR with my stuff piled up on it.

And its not just a magic cape, its special rider safety gear, works a hell of a lot better than fluro. The cagers love it.

Ok - we are thinking of leaving about 10am now.... Bugger work (but not bugger a bit of a sleep in). Definitely want to take SH52 from Masterton up. Need to have a compulsory McDonalds breakfast.

Being a 'Duck newbie, can someone fill me in on the following:
Hot or cold showers? (Cold is ok with me)
Cooking facilities?
Does Waipawa have a supermarket?
Is it poor form to take bourbon in a plastic bottle? (since glass not allowed - according to the ticket. I might have to smash my headlight in then before entering).

Both, depending on what time you get to them

Cooking facilities?
Bonfire, otherwise byo. They have a kitchen running 24/7 serving a range of food ranging from chips n burgers to decent cookd brekkies and meals. Very reasonably priced too.

Does Waipawa have a supermarket?
yes, of sorts

Is it poor form to take bourbon in a plastic bottle?
There are all sorts of things bought in plastic bottles....
The bar prices are pretty good.
All you really need to bring is $ - plenty of food and drink onsite at reasonables prices.

Bren
28th April 2010, 08:52
At this stage I am working Friday, and as some ofd you know I work nightshift.....so the form for me is to leave early sat morning, or go straight from work friday night and go through the Rapa...If I leave Friday night I should probably get there 3 or 4 am when everyone is in a good state or asleep...Where are the KB crew pitching this year? same as last year?

Hey all

I'm over here from OZ & wanting to go to Cold Duck Rally. Have sooo been looking forward to Rallying in NZ.

I need a lift down from Waihi (will meet in auck or somewhere on the way if needed) & a tent to crash in (doesn't have to be by the same folk).
I've got bike gear & a swag, but a nice dry tent would be sweet.
I can help with travel cost or the plying of alkyhall :drinknsin ... or maybe just as a windbreak on the back of the bike... haha!

So if anyone can help please PM me... muchly appreciated :D

cheers guys

Want to join a group / mob traveling from Wellington? Here is a plan:

10am - meet at McDonalds upper hutt for breakfast (not silverstream - up the other end near upper hutt station)
11am - leave Caltex Rimutaka / Upper Hutt. Head to Masterton then take the castle point turnoff then left onto Highway 52 (the back passage) to Waipawa
1pm - 1:30pm stop at Ti Tree Point to pick up Moki
~ 3pm arrive at rally
3:01pm - start drinking bourbon
2am - start thinking about pitching the tent

PM me / reply here if you are interested.

Here is the route:

1. Save some logic for loading shit to the bike on Sunday morning.

Got back quite late yesterday. Was an awesome rally again this year. Brilliant weather for the whole time which was impressive. Was nice to see so many familiar faces and get up to the general mischief. I apologise to all for not comming with my cape.

Got a little bit carried away yesterday comming home, as nobody wanted to join me for the Napier-Taupo road, so ended up doing a few K's. After Taupo, headed round the western side of the lake, and was going to go down to the parapara's, but then changed my mind, and headed off to Turangi in favour of going over vinegar hill. Done the boring extend of the desert road, cruised through Waiouru and the turned off for Spooners hill before getting into Taihape. The weather started getting pretty warm, and with plenty of daylight left to go, saddle road and then ballance were the next places to conquer. With a brief stop off at Pahiatua, over the road I went and then Alfredton here I come. By this stage I was getting pretty nackerd, so into after stopping off to see my Aunt in Masterton, I made a beeline for home for a long deserved sleep. Feel sorry for all those who had to go home and do chores. Route below.

[QUOTE=WuZards-Eugene;1129746729]Got back quite late yesterday.
You obviously didn't have enough to drink the night before

YOU OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TO DRINK ON SATURDAY NIGHT

First rally, bloody brilliant. Thanks Eugene for hanging back with us up Route 52 to the rally. Was good to meet you Sandra and a couple of others too.

I will definitely do this again... I have a few others I'm going to bring along. If you haven't done one, you don't know what you are missing.

Don't like to talk or think about it ,I get upset and it make my stomach soar:sick:, but yes it is my fault , dumb-ass was speeding :innocent:. You know you self how smooth are ST and how boring is to ride long straight road , and your license did vaporise :bye:few times even that is only ST:innocent:, so on way to Taupo I was one of first one to leave duck and didn't have to stop at Hasting or Nelson to fill up. I didn't take any of my kids with me then I will ride bit slower , so on straight road just before Taupo I duck behind my screen and open it up a bit, all I can see was white car on side of the road , so I took him with me to town and stay there about 30 min in residential street and after that got my self Burger King. But it was his mate that got me just out of Taupo , I was 500 m short to turn left along Waikato river lakes , 15 min later he turn up and confirm that was me. As I was on side of the road my mate on Harley and only Victory at cold duck ride pass and wave to me :Punk: . Trick with photo of my kids as I was getting my license out didn't work. They were nice to let me get home, but with 2 ticket I pick up last month on R1, I be handing in my license at Court.
But hey what is done is done:done::whocares:, I have to say it is so ease just take a twist of wrist , I didn't learn nothing from it I knew not to do it. I was trying to get home orly for Mather's day so I left remit ( Steve ) back in Waipawa with his radar detector and he got home before me:shifty:. And if you didn't see many cop cars around Taupo - I got them all.

They you have it something for KB to talk about. I have to tell someone, why not to all of you:shutup:

As I got home I didn't say nothing to my wife, you know Mother day:innocent: and all , I didn't get her anything for mother day so I couldn't say honey I got ticket but no to Hawaii ... and she still doesn't know as her mum is having major operation this week  I didn't like to upset her and get bashing :bash:. She is so upset:angry: that I have to get new shock for bike, as she doesn't like me spending money on them . Thanks Keith for your offer I my come and get your spare shock and if is any good I give you some money for it , even that you say it I can have it thanks:niceone: That is still my old camera just some photos come OK so I post it .

Still I have good weekend:yes: , and ride home along lakes to Mangakino, Kihikihi, Te Awamutu........:Punk:

Oh man, sorry to hear about that Din. I've lost my license a couple of times for accumulating too many demerit points, so I know how you feel - it is a right bugger when that happens.

My speedo is in Miles per hour. Still catches me out now and then.
Cruising along at 100 and wondering why all the other traffic is going 70 on the open road.
Hope you remembered not to admit any wrong-doing.

Dammit, sorry to hear that buddy, yes I had the taxation detector and saw no traffic police anywhere. I suppose its just how the cookie crumbles.

Glad to hear everybody got home to where they were going safe and sound. Yes next year is our 20th Cold Duck and we are trying to figure out how to make it even more special! Look out for a new stage roof (no more rain and wind hole at the front) amongst other things. We have a blast putting it on for you and enjoy the hard work in getting it to run well for you all. Remember next year that camper vans and buses will not be allowed to park at the duck as it is a motorcycle rally not a motorhome rally!
I look forward to hurling more abuse at you all and if anybody was offended by my comments on stage.................harden up! Its all a bit of fun! (Yes I'm the prick with the mic!)

Mate, Great rally! Agree about Motorhomes, buses and Campvans. The show was great too but... how about instaed of throwing all the giveaways into the front of the crowd you do more spot prizes during the rally, maybe during the whole three days instead, thought it was great after the thunder run , we're yakking next to the bikes beside BP and one of the guys turns around and has a christmas present on his bike. Keep up the good work!! I'll be there next year if I can for a 3RD go.

Looking at google maps that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Sounds like they set up a few hidden cameras especially for the event.

Mine was for 75 in a 50.
