Actually, I saw (and stole) a bunch of old American MX mag's from the school art room that were destined to be used as mixing pads a while ago. Pretty cool to read all the stuff from back when Mc Grath was cleaning up and RC was the "new kid on the block" and I'll bet there are a few old road racing mags like that worth a read... If you have any of those, don't throw them out, I'll take them off your hands...

We have boxes of bike mags in the garage. My partner got his bike licence in 1970 and his little brother got his a couple of years later so you can just imagine the collection.
I'm pleased to say they're both still riding but these days they do most of their bike oggling online rather than accumulating magazines.
At least I think it's bikes they're oggling! :eek5:

I'm *still* waiting for them to finish the Killer Sportster...
Yeah I remember those "did you ever" Did you ever pinch the web of your thumb and forefinger changing a tire and it hurt so bad you threw the tire lever right through the (closed) garage door...Did you ever break a tap off in an exhaust flange hole and just run the nut onto what was left of the tap...
Edit - Did You Ever was written by Ed Hertfelder. I've had a look and can't find those columns but i did find these:
http://www.nhmotox.com/pdf/comedy/comedy.htm
Editor Cook Neilson and Phil Schilling built a Ducati 750ss -"Old Blue" for Daytona. there was an excellent story ("Racer Road") about building it. The pic is an exact replica called Deja Blue built for the Barber museum.
I have the very last issue of Cycle. It's a keeper

I've collected PB since the beginning of the 1990's...

Yep, have a fair few piled up from about 1990. It is surprising how often one can recall reading something and have to go back for another look...usuallly ends up in hours looking at old PBs and having a laugh. BRMs are accumulating pretty rapidly, too.

:shifty: No you're not on your own. The bike magazine thing got out of hand for me over the years and now have enough to start a book store:lol:.
Dont get rid of them you'll regret it. Have a few mates that got rid of their collections and still hear about it.......errr mind you some of them went into my collection but i let them read them occasionally:devil2::rofl:

I had 10 years of Easyrider magazine at one point in my life (was the only bike mag I've ever really bothered reading).

Oh, wow. That's described as cruel and unusual punishment under the human bill of rights act (meaning marriage). As for losing your EasyRider mags in the divorce - that's just mean.

A lot of my '70s and '80s bike mags end up as "reading while going" material.

I started buying "Two Wheels" in the 70's, before I had a bike. Stopped in the 80's, IIRC, and sold my collection to a secondhand book store.
Now I just about never buy buy bike magazines - it's more interesting reading stuff on forums like this. The last ones I got were bought for me by the vifferbabe, coz she felt sorry for me. After I opened them, she felt sorry she bought them as they were full of scantily clad babes, and a calendar of them as well. Still, we all appreciated them adorning the wall of the upstairs toilet for 12 months...

that was me, too. Cycle was $0.60, Two Wheels was $0.40. Don't laugh, I was on apprentice wages of $21 week. When I got the F9 dramatic cost cutting measures had to be taken so I stopped getting Two Wheels.

Oh yeah, definitely not alone. I have odd copies of two wheels, an NZ mag and others from the 80's up. plus I have Cycle magazine from 1982 on, till it folded and Cycle World since then. I still get Cycle World every month, have subscribed to PB for a couple of years, got Kiwirider for the blinged Triumph Scrambler offer but will renew my subscription even if by some vague chance I dont win the Scrambler (what would I do with two of them?), plus I get Classic Racer mag now as well. And buy the odd "extra" I love magazines......... but I sure have got a shitload of them.

Yes it was, bought new in '72 for $1169. Probably not the best bike to start off roading on, previous bike was a Matchless 500 G9. Had a few issues, the flywheel came off from time to time until I lapped it to the crank taper. On the other side it inhaled rotary disks, twice (no idea why, they just peeled off and went into the inlet port). Gave up with it and got a DT250.
I've been lookng on Ebay for another F9 but so far no success

You'd be lucky to find an F9 now even in parts only condition mate. Sold my '74 DT360A nearly fully restored a few months ago to a North Island buyer and I'm still regretting it but .....time to move on.

Dude you are not the only one. I have stuff from the seventies (no I didn't collect them, I bought them new) through to now. I can't bear to part with them. Everytime I go to clean them out I open one up and start reading and then I'm thinkin' that was a great bike etc., which in turn starts me on which bike I owned at the time and mates and other shit. They are pretty well thumbed and some are a bit tatty but I just can't dump them.
Just bite the bullet mate and admit you're a sentimental old coot, buy the missus a bunch of roses to help her forget the magazines exist then settle down in the garage with a beer and enjoy a trip down memory lane with some good motorcycle porn

time spent re-reading a test of a GPz550 in 1983, or the best column ever "The Duct Tapes" in Cycle mag is never time wasted IMO.

No you're not, clearly. I collected 10 years worth of 'Bike" and recently sold them to a guy in Nelson. And here's the sad bit, I now borrow them off him to look up certain bits and pieces and post them back! I've already started the next 10 years collection!
