Ok so I find a pic on the net I like and think I'll add that as an avatar.

Seems somebody else has the same avatar so another person redreps me for stealing it off them.

So whats the deal pics found on the net can only be used by one person?

How would you know who has what avatar unless you search every members profiles?

And I have seen many a handle on here with the smae pics up as avatars, did you guys get repped as well?

O an if your the person that red repped me can you at least give me the correct handle of the person I have supposedly plagurised so that I can look at their avatar:headbang:

ie; mine. I'd be VERY surprised if mine (recently changed) is unique.
RM's is defininately unique .... cough. :)
I do kinda find them useful when helping me to remember peoples nicknames/login names etc tho.

You get a red rep and you put up a post about it? WTF!

Why, I've half a mind to ... never mind. Peace bro.

27th March 2009, 14:29
You don't seem to have plagurised with so many members its so hard to know who has what avatar .. and who really cares. Once you have enough posts you will be able to see who gives you rep.

Meh, I noticed the other day that someone had grabbed an old one that i used to use.

No big deal. It's a bit confusing when people have the same avatar at the same time, cos I tend to skim the name and look at the pic.

Who really cares, at the end of the day. You're in for a very rough ride here if that sort of thing bothers you.

General Netiquette. Obviously unintentional and the other person was letting you know you had it.

Change pic, move on.

I've seen that avatar before, but can't for the life of me think whose it is. They could have signed it at least, but it's ok - a red rep won't stop you from visiting other countries ;)

Lots of people have the same avatar as someone else.

If the picture was found on the 'net, no problem - you haven't "stolen" it. Using the same picture is not against the site rules, regardless of what others may claim.

we got in trouble for using someones avatar before tho.

some KB members seem to keep the same avatar and never change it.

Others, change it every day. There are also people that change it every few weeks or so just for their own amusement.

Some people have a big attachment to their avatars. Much like a hand or foot. Others still find amusement in plague like avatars that mutate and spread throughout many members. The hitcher tron.... ...spaaartaa... the list goes on.

Stealing a well known avatar is 'bad form' and generally would get a red rep... some people have been known to actually cry about their avatar being stolen, and once or twice a member got really upset and made a entire thread about it...

Nettiquette schmettiquette.

Post more, gain more rep and then you can see who red repped you and kick the shit out of them in meatspace.

I presume that's what a red rep means "I want a fight, come and kick the shit out of me - bring your mates too just in case I'm a big mofo"

Easy.

No??!! To be fair, all you can really say is that the member started a thread about it. What made the thread was everyone else piling in.

Move on now, folks, there's nothing to see here.

Fat fucking jesus, some people need to get out and around more. Unless you hold the exlusive copyrights to a photo you are already stealing in a sense by using it as your avatar. Just because you saw a picture before another guy doesn't mean you have exclusive rights to its use.

And yes, people get terribly upset about all sorts of shit, stolen avatars, red rep, being called an idiot, told they are wrong, having their personal shortcomings discussed on the internet, et cetera ad nauseum.

There is a lesson in there somewhere

And what would that be then?

Most definitely!

Personally, I only ever gave one person a red rep, and it was (I felt) a much deserved one for having behaved like a right goat in the first place on an important KB event...he who shall not be named will probably know what i'm on about ;)

But frankly, who cares eh? We're here to have fun and talk bikes or shite and keep in touch with friends.

I don't see how a few posts relate to an awful lot of time, maybe you need to spend more time outdoors as I spend an awful amount of time on my bike than I do here.

The original intent was actually about the avatar and the use of it, the red rep was just the instigator of it.
I have noted though that there are others with the same avatar.
