View Full Version : Firefox not displaying threads correctly?

Since yesterday, Firefox isn't showing "multi-quote" "quick reply" icons - uses words instead, but "Quote" is fine. Plus some threads run outside the page window now. Very odd.

Can't remember what translates these into icons - Java? but somethings broke. Any suggestions?

I'm no expert but try checking what version of Java you have installed. Does it work fine on other browsers, like IE?

No problem here, FF3

Would you like me to ban Firefox?

Could be a firefox java add-on. Try disabling "java quick start" add-on, if installed, then restart Firefox.

Check your Adblock Plus Filters.

Click on the ABP icon, and the blockable items window should open down the bottom. See if anything is showing in red, if it is, get rid of whatever filter is causing it.

Good thinking Lias but no cigar. I've disabled Adblock for KB but no difference. However I'll experiment further.

Firefox y' always get the drop down on any more than one tab. But if you have a LOT of tabs open , not just a few like the Churchillian gentleman, it hides them over a certain number and displays left and right scroll arrows to scroll across them

Java dunt do translating words into images. T'would save time on graphics designers if it did, but.

At any rate, I've had this when my connection has been flaky between here and the KB server in the US. Or when I get throttled down to 64kbps after hitting my quota. Firefox will timeout on getting the images and gives up. Unusual for it to be that consistent though.

Clear your cache and try again. Hit F5 for a proper reload. Or did you say you'd already done that?

See if you can view these manually.

Yes had it happen on slow connection but that's not the problem here. Tried F5 but no difference. Will empty cache - good idea.

Hmm......no. Get a blank page with a small book icon at the left top. Interesting.....

I notice when I click on Multiquote the button now appears. All a bit odd, doesn't happen on my other laptop.

By `book icon' do you actually mean the icons themselves for quick reply et al? Because that's what you'll get, a blank page with just the icon in the top left. He linked to the image files for the icons. If they're displaying on their own but aren't displaying in the main page then there's something odd afoot. It would seem like cache issues but who knows.

Yeah same issue here for me using Firefox. Have undated Java recently as well as FF.
Bit of a mystery. Cheers

That's the correct icon, Winston, it might just be from a different theme. Do you normally use Dark Universe? Try switching to Light Universe and see if you get the icons.

Whooaaaa! :chase: Looks weird, all blue and white, so this is what KB looks like for some...?? Wonder how many don't use the Dark Universe? Spankme - any idea?

Anyway, good call Xwhatsit, thanks. The buttons are back. However I also changed the interface settings down to standard which may also be the difference. Will now experiment. Cheers.

Good man. well done, spotted the difference. :2thumbsup: In the Light Universe the buttons are fine. I experimented with all three edior choices and no problem. The buttons aren't the same as in the Dark or the Forum Default (which appears to be Dark) but that doesn't matter.

So it's something to do with how FF is rendering the page in the Dark Universe - but only on this pc. And it only happens in threads, not main forum pages. I can live with it easily enough, just puzzled.

Fixed it but not quite the way I expected. Changed the screen DPI to 120 and suddenly KB is fine. :D

Firefox will timeout on getting the images and gives up.It's very obvious here that this occurs when the page is created exceedingly slowly. It affects all images on the page: buttons, rep indicators, post count indicators, etc. Haven't bothered to test if it is the server, the connection or my browser choking. Happens on multiple machines, connections, browsers and times.

In any case, it's nothing to worry about, it doesn't impact functionality and is temporary (for me).

So it's something to do with how FF is rendering the page in the Dark UniverseNope; I always use the Light Universe (because it is easier to read).

Just use Chrome, its WAY betterer!Bollocks to that!! It can't even follow the mouse properly when you select text. Cut'n'paste only works intermittently... it's rubbish. Google have obviously started down the road to the bad ways of Microsoft, moving from a try-hard underdog doing excellent work, to releasing crap products prematurely. Half the features I use regularly are now hidden.

Or did I just get sucked in to an April Fools Day joke?

I had a lot of problem since the last Firefox update the other day (version 3.0.9) Embedded Youtube vids wouldn't display, attached photos, reply function not working properly. I updated Shockwave and Adobe, didn't help much but installing the latest version of Java sorted it
