I was 34 when I bought my VTR250 in Aussie. Learnt to ride, got my full license, and took a ride with some mates to watch a post classic meeting at Wakefield Park. Included in the programme was bucket racing.
I was 35 when I started racing the CB125T with the PCRA and BRA in 'stralia. First race meeting was at Wakefield Park, just north of Canberra. Brilliant little track for bucket racers, but way too small for serious SS or SB racing.
Gave the racing away when I came back to Unzud in 2004, but am now setting up my 07 GSX-R600 for track days this year and Clubmans with VMCC in 2010.
I was around 20 when I started racing bucket sidecars. Also raced a solo. Then moved on to hare scrambles and motocross with the odd enduro.

hmmm i must be gettin old. started way back in 1986 on a TZR250. Then onto a FZR400 then a FZR750, then had a break, well several actually, after a big highside. Took a rest for a couple o years then got back on a ZX7RR. Bloody mental thing, it tried to kill me often. finished racing in 2002 after a neck breaking highside. Now just do mechanicing. more stress but less danger ehehehehe.

Our boy has just turned 13. He has been working really hard to pay for a KX85. It has taken a couple of months and alot of hard work on his part.
After spending his birthday riding at Taupo on a Suzuki RG150, he came to Frosty tonight and said,
'Dad......if I sell my dirt bike can I go racing?'

17 or 18 I think. Bucket racing at the track in the Wiri container terminal.
CB100 bucket then onto a "real" racebike -a MB50 bucket.
Then 250 proddy on a yamaha 250.
Did 250 proddy and bracket racing ( a.b.c and d grade) for awhile.
Raced the old club track at Pukie. The manukau street race, whanganui, manfeild,Tauranga.Whangarei street race. Bomont street race
Threw in a full nationals somewhere.
I fucked up by buying a TZR250 reverse cylinder thing that kept blowing up
To be honest I got bored with always beeing broke after a few years.

I was 20 and i was told to do it by Robert Holden and his then girlfriend Joanne .
It was at the Gracefield track and i rode my CB400/4 which i rode from home (about 4 kms away) without all the road gear on it , then i rode it home after to fix all the bend stuff from a small crash lol.
I stopped when i retired the first time  in 1991 and then restarted in (i think ) 2004 in clubmans on a CBR400rr and did until i gave the bike to Nicksta to thrash and shes been doing it since :2thumbsup
Bikes i raced , CB400/4 stock and then with full HRC based motor etc ,
CBR600 Hurricane, NS400r , VFR750, CB1100r , RCB980 F1, MVX250 (we all have to suffer) , GB400 , plus a host of other borrowed bikes i cant recall.
Best bike , RCB980F1 , so much power and yet such a challenge in the
corners lol that was a challenge if i ever saw one
Highlite ....... meeting all the heroes i still hold true as such.
Low Point ..... Attending Robert Holdens funeral. R.I.P. #1.

GT750 1976 aged 17 Levels... then all sorts of mostly 2 strokes! until the mid 80's, then a gap, now heaps of motards, gravel hill climbs and roadracing on a DR650.

The first event was a road hill climb in about 1989 on an 81 GSX750 when I was 21. Three of us had just gone thirds in a CT125 Bucket racer which we entered in the same event - unfortunitley it lunched itself before I got to ride it:doh:
This was followed by an MB100 bucket which was raced irregularly for several years (used to ride it to work also). In about 2000 I got the chance to ride a mates CBR400. I really enjoyed it - so dragged the old GSX750 out for a couple of club days. This was followed by an FZR400 and now a CBR600.
I have also used the poor long suffering GSX for beach racing, mini TTs and gravel hill climbs:headbang:

Such a long time ago,,
about 1974 at around 16yrs old I raced enduro/motocross, but I dont remember what we called it. I was even used to make a Suzuki advert after winning in Raglan..the ad ended with rider removing helmet and shaking out long hair (female)...oh well!
In 1975 I went onto the road at New Lynn on a CR250m with CB125 wheels off my mates bike.
A couple of outings here n there, and then got married, joined the Army, raised kids.
Got back into bikes in 2000 and do the odd track day here n there. I had a VTR1000SP1 Trackbike for a while, but sold it due to change of circumstances.
Now I fly to NZ instead of doing trackdays.. Hoping that things will pick up and I can get back to doing both

15 yrs old on my Katana 750 at Baypark in 85 - used to try and keep up with sidecar bob on his 1100 Katana......
Then progressed to a GSX1135 at 16, bored it to 1229cc then I could kick Bobs arse!!!!
Turned 17, found out about a 3 wheeled contraption called a sidecar, Bob and I built one for $1600 and went out and raced it in the full nationals (7 rounds back then), and duly came 3rd in our first ever National series! (I had just turned 18).
Then progressed to better sidecars, and more titles.
Geezuz, I feel old now......................

NEVER TO OLD, started raceing at 57 (yep) first race at Taupo in 2003 i think.
Since then have done Paeroa street races twice and one meeting at Wanganui.
For the last Four years have done every Vic Club series and Pacific series on my ZXR 400, being reasonably competetive as well.
Now getting into Buckets and Street Stock racing for something different.
Love it all, should have started years ago, so making up for lost time and want to continue for some time yet, "Duke girl" says she will help me get out of my wheel chair to get on my bike.:laugh::msn-wink:

Started on 150streetstock at 17 (still there) after a potentially very serious road crash, and my dads mate recommended it to me.
find it great and must be the best thing for road riding survival skills.
Woo racing tomorrow!

Neither the wheelchair or the Yamaha.
I started racing at the age of 22 at the Phillip Island track on a 125 MV Augusta. I did a couple of seasons on that and then raced a 450 Ducati, which we bought in pieces and did it up so that i could race that which I did for 2 yrs.
Have been around bikes for most of my life as my Grandfather use to race speedway and my Father use to Road Race in all different circuits around Australia, on bikes such as TZ 250 & TD 350 Yamahas and also a 500cc H1 triple Kawasaki.
Boy do those bikes bring back good memories, especially the helmets they use to wear back in those day. The old puddin basin open face helmets and the goggles.
Gee how times have changed.

I was 37 and I was on my trusty 94 cbr600, First round of the Vic winter series 2007 at Taupo, it was raining and I only had slicks! Everything was going swimmingly (literally) I was in 4th place in Clubmans and closing on 3rd place, got a bit excited and left it way too late into T2 and down I went! God that was fun! great thread duke girl!!

In my flirty forties, in 2007 at the VMCC Winter Series. After 3 years of marshalling and watching people having fun doing something I didn't think I would ever be "good enough" to do. I realised it didn't matter how good I was, and I wasn't going to get good unless I did my apprenticeship. Bought a CBR400rr and haven't looked back.
