Going to be interesting to see local lad, Karl Urban, as Bones!!!

I lost interest in Star Trek when they joined forces with Greenpeace and made 'Geriatrics in Space Save the Whale.'

That was too much and I have never watched another Star Trek offering since.

Firefly is good though.

IMHO, the last good Star Trek movie was Insurection, last good series was Voyager. I haven't got my hopes up for this movie.

Voyager was crap. Enterprise was crap. TNG was better than TOS. DS9 was a good idea badly executed by over indulged B-Grade actors.

JJ Abrams will have his own take on the concept and it will miss Gene Roddenberry's point completely.

JJ Abrams is the last person I would have entrusted the franchise to, but since that dork Berman got hold of it it's done nothing but get more and more unwatchable. Now that Majel is dead, GR Jnr is going to be made to watch Star Trek turn into "Lost" in Space.

The trailer makes me ill.

McJim, Firefly is rubbish. SG-1 and SG Atlantis kick it's butt. Farscape was by far the best TV Sci-Fi of the last 20 years.

BG is starting to grow on me, but the latest twist of turning main protaganists into Cylon clones is BS.

The above is MNSHO and therefore 100% correct and the rest of you are all wrong.

I'm looking forward to Race to Witch Mountain more than Star Trek.

Although I didn't like Firefly I was quite partial to Serenity but yes SG1 and Atlantis are both far superior, although I think SG1 lost something when Richard Dean Anderson retired

Farscape was very good but I'd rate Lexx it's equal

Serenity was great. The irony in that is that it was proof positive that the idea behind Firefly couldn't sustain a series. It was one movie's worth of material. Firefly didn't have a Sci-Fi feel to it. It was a Western TV series stuck on a cheap space set.

Lexx the TV Series was awesome, and has it's roots in far better quality Sci-Fi than anything in this thread. Lexx, the Charlize Theron vehicle was utter bilge.

Do you mean Aeon Flux? Charlize Theron was in the movie a few years back.

Bren
10th April 2009, 11:01
Aeon Flux, now that was good, and I do concurr that Farscape was one of the best sci fi series ever!, it's a shame my hard drive fried last year as I had every single episode of farscape on it....

Lexx was weird and bizzare, but none the less a great filler at late night...

Sliders, who remembers that...I found the first 2 series good, but it went down hill in the 3rd series...

Final Fantasy was a great movie, I loved that one....

But heading back to the topic at hand, it is great to see Star Trek back again...

Waiting for the Sci Fi Channel to get to sky...I hope it does, but cant see it happening for ages if ever...

Battlestar galactica the new series *not the original* is amazing, definately the best sci-fi on tele. SG-1 was great until the new cast i.e when rda retired but is still a great watch.

All you firefly haters sucks hairy camel balls, that show was awesome.

Im definately looking forward to the new trek movies, looks good but hopes might be dashed. Best st movie ever was first contact.

I reckon the next generation was the best series in terms of thought provoking and engaging story lines....q anyone but voyager was pretty kickass as well.

Star trek works on the whole point that the enterprise is going places new, always coming across different things. Hence why ds9 sucksed balls, I was looking forward to enterprise continuing but alas cancelled after four series.

Remember people, transformers 2 and terminator 4 salvation *which looks ridiculously awesome* are also coming out this year.

Oh and lest we forget the previous sci fi shows that won us over like sliders which was wicked, babylon five, farscape, lexx, earth final conflict *roddenberry was a god lol*

Most of my DVD collection is SF
SG1, Atlantis, STmotion pix 1-6, Babylon 5, Ultra Violet, Aeon Flux....

Fav ST movie: First Contact.

Who's our favourite ST character/character combo??

For me, I was always a fan of Bones. I most especially loved the relationship between him and Spock the most. Those little touches of sarcasm from Bones esp. You could just feel the love!! Best part of that being of course in IV:Search for Spock and Bones realising Spock pulled a mind whammy on him before he when into the reactor chamber.

The female crew in the original Trek TV show.
Those short skirts might be seen as impractical for space travel in tv shows now days, but they sure looked good.

I've seen the new trek film already. Went to the charity premiere last Thursday.

I've been a trek watcher in the past, but wouldn't say I'm a huge fan....but I did enjoy this new one.
It's just a good action movie in its own right, regardless of whether you're a trek fan or not.

The final is series and final 2 hour movie is worth the watch... ;) big twist at the end... this has all happened before and will happen again.

As for the latest ST movie... while I am looking forward to seeing it, I will reserve judgment till after I have seen...

Personally the haven't made a decent ST movie ever... so I don't like my odds...

According to Wikipedia, she bumped the ratings up nicely when ST was on the verge of fading away. Nothing wrong with eye candy...

I suppose that's only when she was in that little jumpsuit number, too??!!

For some reason I always think 6 of 9. :shifty:

I would be suprised if that was an inside joke for the production team:
increase ratings by adding eyecandy leading to the inevitable thoughts of copulation leading to thoughts of how leading to six nine but cos she's a girl with a little something extra that would make seven nine -> ->

Vio la!!
7 of 9!

Two words - "Can't wait".

I too didn't particularly like "geriatrics go back in time to save whale". One moment from that one I loved thoughwas Scotty trying to speak to the computer in the holding tank manufacturing facility and wondering why it wouldn't respond to him.

In the US in the 60's, I'm sure a lot of people at that time didn't like a black woman even being on the bridge.

I liked the movie, ok I'm actually a closet treckie, thought the plot was a very clever way to explain the diffences between the movie and the original series. About the only thing I didn't like was the views of the working of the Enterprise looked like a petrochemical plant.

4 of 5 stars.
