There's nowt wrong with the 1990s ones, there's no difference really. As always general condition is far more important than mileage or age when it comes to bikes. I don't think Blue Wing imported any of the 2000+ ones into NZ (or the 1990s ones anyway?!), at least not in any large numbers, they're an expensive wee 250.

But yes, Toto's 2001 is a good'un.

yea but i really want the 2000+ because of the fuel gauge and my dad is very choosy.. he wants a year 2000+ and a low mileage hornet.. i was like HOW CAN I FIND IT!! its too hard.. toto's bike has too high mileage... i know it doesnt matter but my dad want's a resale value in the future. ( the bike is actually for me but my dad won't let me pick myself) :(

Ya know the lil'ol'hornets pre-200* are just as good ... my one is up to 99600km and still going strong! Fuel gauge isn't a biggy since so many other bigger bikes don't have them!

I guess your dad just has your best interests at heart, but the average price for something like what you are looking for is around $6000 -$6500! :pinch:

The reason why its tough to find the 200* are that they are still being used in Japan for commuting to the train station! They won't get rid of them until around 5 000 - 15 000 kms have been put on them. And riding 2-5km to the train station means it will take a bit of time for them to do that! :pinch:

If you find a lil'ol' hornet you want to take a good look at, drop TOTO, Badger8 or me a PM since we know a thing or two about them! :msn-wink:

I would have thought a semi-new decent milage bike (e.g. Toto's) would depreciate LESS than a near new low milage bike.

If you get a 2003+ low milage bike for $6-7000+, it'll depreciate $2000 in a few years. Get a $5000 bike, and it might depreciate around $1000.

Anyway, a quick search on TradeMe shows truck loads of 250 Hornets

I think there will be a ready resale at a good price for almost any 250, regardless of year or mileage. They already sell for far more than they should for what they are.

thx... im quite interested in your bike but i bet all my dad's concern of your bike would be the mileage and the 10KMH + thingAll speedos over read (unless you change sprockets and/or tyres) and 10kph over at 100kph isn't that bad and is not a reason to not buy a bike. And i would not worry about the mileage especially when you can see a bike has been serviced properly.

They sound really good I have to say.
Bill at motorcyclesonline started one up, and it had the Growl of my Kirker "loudened" CBR....
He took off and it sounded like he was doing 100mph by the end of the street... only to be doing 50!
Really nice sound, and not at all annoying.

Hornet 250's are awesome! I've only had mine for 12 months but have had so much fun on it. It's a 2003 in black with gold wheels, purchased from Wellington Motorcycles. Not sure what selection they have now, but when i went down to visit them they had 4 available from 2003 to 2008 models! Good luck finding one.

Hi there!,

Having only completed my licence two weeks ago, I'm fairly new to the world of bikes! The two bikes i do have on my hunting list are the VTR 250, and Hornet 250.

I'm just curious to know what you'd consider high mileage for these bikes. Are they both a safe choice at the higher mileage end of the spectrum? Ideally i'd like to spend under $4k, although I'm now thinking that this is unlikely.

Kind regards,
Simon

I'm initially constantly embarrassed to ride my lil' ol'hornet because it makes so much noise, and it's not that thump-thump-thump noise typically associated with motorbikes by the general public. I've got a middle-aged lady neighbour drop by and suggest I take riding lessons to understand how to ride my bike better... which I did, and realised there's nothing wrong with my riding. It's just the way the bike sounds.

I love riding the bike thru a tunnel tho'

Ah hah ahahah ... on Target yesterday with the article on buying chew fiddies, they had a nice lil'ol'hornet up for the inspection ... funny how they never mentioned them in the list of chew fiddies that people could buy :oi-grr:

Mmmmm just got new Diablos for my lil'ol'hornet, he's happy and it's the bee's knees for him :wari:

ummm bout 4-6k??

Might be a good idea to go find another $1500 coz I can't see anyone parting with a post 2000 hornet with less than 30,000km on it for less than $7,500.

I have seen 1996 ones with 60,000 on them go for $5,500-$6,500.

Or you could get a 250 that is currently being sold NZ new like the Kwak Ninja 250 or the VTR250.

It's all very well being fussy but it could mean 6 months or more before you get your bike.

Best of luck.
