Howsit, Im Pete and I finally got my first bike.. Nearly 2 years after getting my learners too :argh: And since then Ive only ridden a gn250 once for about 1km lol.. yeah....so how do you ride again ? So far today ive ridden about 70km's, im loving it and looking forward to ridding some more tomorrow !
Does anyone know how much psi of air goes in the tyres on the hornet 250 ?
Also the radiator cap seems to be underneith the petrol tank ?? ---- SUSSED now thanks
EDIT: When I first got the bike delivered the guy started it and said "thats the choke" but it dosn't need any as we started it this morning.. So I naturally thought the choke was in the off position. But while waiting for the traffic lights to change I thought I'd make sure so I moved the choke from where it was to "ON" but the revs went down? To cure my curiousity I thought I would post a pick so you can tell me what you think.
The choke > [URL
Sorry for the blurry pic but is the choke ON where it says choke or at the bottom of the arrow ?

If you don't have a manual and its not written on the swing arm of the bike (some are) then go online and search it -
I have an SV650 and the radiator cap is also hard to get at - so long as you can see if the water is high enough etc, then you shouldn't have to touch it - esp if its a new bike.
Have fun and stay upright

Wellcome to the joys of motorcycling !
You will find there is also a top up feeder bottle somewhere prolly under the seat that you use to keep your radiator topped up !
Use the search function up along the top of this page and enter the word manualz ! Enjoy the read !

Thanks for the welcomes everyone !! I just clocked up another 60km :2thumbsup I stopped by Murrays Bay beach for a rest and this dude came over and had a good yarn, said he had a 1200cc bandit :eek5: I couldn't imagen riding something so powerful.
I had a search for manuals but found what seems to be for every motorcycle but mine lol.. Looks like I have to pay $ for one. And I found the overflow tank, cheers for that.. Im going to update my first post with a pic and question about the choke

Thanks mate, can anyone else back this up? When starting cold the idol dosn't seem to change when switching the choke lever but when warm the bike revs higher when choke is away so pretty much the opposite from above poster.. I is confuzzled

Nice choice of bike, for me bike revs at 2000rpm when choke is pushed away from me and 4000 when towards me, away=off towards=on

Thanks for the info :) When the choke is pushed away it revs at 2000rpm but when i pull it towards me it goes down to 1000-1500rpm and actually cut out before too. Hmmm

Day 3 of riding! I found myself along east coast road riding the highway so I carried on to the end of Whangaparaoa peninsula ! I noticed alot of riders do the head nod thing so I thought cool I'll join in.. Im really liking this hornet, its got good brakes, its comfortable and sounds nice :) ect ect :) The only problem I can see is that the rear cover behind the seat pops open every now and then..

oh no, you may have just started another waving thread!
Harley riders dont wave, so dont wave or nod to them.
Careful when waving/nodding to Honda riders as they might take it as flirting.
(p/t)
When you feel comfortable enough you should try out SH16, Kaukapakapa to Welsford.
Much fun to be had there

Oh yeah, when i engage the choke when the engine is cold it can take a few twists of the throttle to make the rpm stable and not die, and yeah it's such a wonderful feeling when someone nods/waves to you, be careful of the brakes though, hornet tanks are extremely dentable should you lock up a wheel and drop it, I did both sides of mine within a week of owning it :weep: :baby:

Hi, bought my first bike a couple of months ago - 2006 Hornet 250.
Good choice of bike you made if you ask me. I didn't try many but it seems that everything is compared against the hornet in the 250 stakes (it seems to be the benchmark of what a good 250 should be). Made my decision for me the first time I sat on it.
The hornet is as fast as I need for the time being, handles well and never seems to lack power. Only complaint so far is the wind buffeting at higher speeds. I'm planning to stick a givi screen on it to see if it reduces it much.
Anyway, hornets nest (uk website) is the only place I've been able to find info (in english) for the 250 hornet. http://www.hondahornet.co.uk/index.html
Tyres: 36 front 42 rear.
Choke: never seems to need it. Mine revs at 1500 when warm. If i put the choke on it stalls. I've only ever had it half on once and was only for a couple of minutes.
Enjoy the hornet.
Cheers

Thats exactly what this guy said the other day ! Ive been down that highway a few times, I used to own a couple of silvia's.. But mate picture a retard riding a hornet and thats me  I can ride sweet but then I do the funniest things  Maybe there not the easiest bikes to learn with but meh the bikes good Im not

Yeah haha the brakes sure are good ! So far Ive just hit the front brake abit hard coming to a stop a few times it must look hilarious.. Hey I went to a local bike shop yesterday to ask about the choke system. He said the reason why my revs drop when I turn the choke on is because Im over fueling it (running it rich as the weather is to warm for it (the choke) to work. They also said the 2,000rpm idol is way to much so they dropped it down to 1300rpm. Its easy if you want to know how?

G'day, yeah I agree plus there not small like most other good 250's.. And they have the quality factor over the Hyosungs.

The wind was the first thing i noticed when I cruised the highway, let me know how the givi screen feels !

Start cold engine with choke ON (pulled backwards) then set choke OFF (all the way forward) after setting off or after a couple of minutes of running. The engine should idle okay when up to operating temp.

My initial thought is that the choke lever seem to be in reverse? Not a technical person so don't know if what you were told in the other post you made about the shop suggesting over-fuelling is true. I know my lil' ol'hornet revs high when choke is ON (pulled towards me when I'm sitting on her), and cuts off slowly when the choke is OFF and if the bike is cold. It idles at around 1k once warmed up, choke off.

My Bandit came with a wee Givi Screen that i put on for longer rides. I think the overall force of the wind is less, But there seems to be more wind noise as it is more disturbed after hitting the screen. Keeps most of the wind off chest and shoulders though and its ajustable so maybe I should have a fiddle with the angle its set up next time.
