View Full Version : 2009 R6 Race ready (inc. all road kit)
JayRacer37
19th April 2009, 12:15
The bike was prepared for and raced in the first three rounds of the NZ 600 Sports Production Championship by Jay Lawrence. It was run in correctly on the road and did one Auckland club championship round before a complete engine build by noted race engineer Chris Osborne. The preparation included new rings, balancing, cam timing and computer controlled indexing and undercutting by spark erosion of the gearbox to the cost of several thousand dollars. It is built right up to the letter of the 600 SP rules and produced the highest output ever recorded by a 600 SP on Wellington's most used and reliable Dyno.
The incident that brought Jay's championship to an end part way through Round Three resulted in only minor damage to the bike which has been corrected including brand new "factory quality" paint on the professionally repaired petrol tank.
The bike is the least used of any race bike for sale in NZ and is for sale at over $10.000.00 less than it cost to build.

Its to do with the defliberation of the distiller while modulating the resonance of the flux capasitor to exactly the gap in the sparkplugs. There.

Yup,
After prior experience with other brand's gearboxes we see it as prudent to take the gearbox apart and match all interacting faces so eveything that is supposed to contact to make a good shift, does. It is incredible how little contacts where it should in a stock japanese gearbox! Poor machining tolerances I guess, doing this just ensures we don't have g'box probs if we race a bike for a few seasons.

So when does the superbike turn up..?
Are you offering me one of yours?
Sadly, no. We just have to sell this one to pay Maidstone Yamaha for it, and Darbi for the parts sponsorship. :( Then start trying to convince people to give me money for another one!! :) (Maybe a superbike, please...?)

Used to do something similar few years ago'on the GSXR's, striping the gear box and 'shot peening' all the gears. Which is blasting them with tiny grains of ?something? removing high spots and minutely radiusing every angle redusing directed stress points. With the exception of the occasional bentselector forks, never had a problem.

Yeah, we were having problems with the engaging dogs on the lower gears only making contact on one point rather than the three (or five?) that they were supposed to because the tolerances were so far out. This meant that the one contacting dog lost its sharp edge and let the gear slip out. We machine the box so all dogs contact fully and are undercut so the gears also essentially 'pull' each other together when they are engaged. Since we started doing this we have had no gearbox faults, and very few missed gearshifts as well.

May I also add that the lucky S.O.B that buys this bike is welcome to have my assistance for a full day at a track of their choice as an instructor/helper/etc. I may even try and drag Dad (and perhaps Mishy...?) along to change tyre's etc and offer advice on the intricacies of setup.

If ya buy my bike, no problem! Seriously though, if I'm ever at a track (bar nationals, perhaps) I am open to answering any questions or offering a hand...occasionally I go on track as an instructor. At the moment I'm not supposed to be riding anyways, unfortunately. :(

LOL, I bought them off Tony about 3 weeks ago. Have repainted the fairings, man, what a bitch to sand those suckers... how many different colors was you paint job!! The shock is on the bike at the moment. Haven't had it on the track yet, but it seems a lot stiffer than standard. you were running a stiffer (thicker) spring also I believe? How was that going for you? I had to reset the suspension although I am also about 85 kgs. Heal well my friend.

This is from Tony Cottle? Man, those fairings were an on the day paint job so we had something that looked like the team colours, we only got his bike on the sat morning to race that day! I'm not sure what he did with the shock in the meantime, its probably a bit different to what I rode it like. You will know when you get it on the track :)

NO mods can be done to the Motor mate, so nothing to look at. Cam timing, head gasket, gear box shimming only

I was referring to the gear matching they had done. Apart from that it's just exhaust, power commander, fancy suspenders, steering damper, levers and rearsets.

WOW, not trying to be a clever smart arse, but sponsors and you, WHY? who the heck are you as a marketing entity for sponsors, you have done nothing yet, so they have NO marketing tools with you at all.
You just want to race, because you want to race, YES?
How old are you?
What are your goals?
How much have YOU spent of your own money?
Post a CV for us
Sorry man, But i cannot believe some of the shite I read on here from people. To get a hole in the ground, it needs to be dug!
Post up your CV, Do you actually deserve some one elses money?
Sell your kids

Mow some lawns for -uck sake, the world is not free dude, where the hell has the Kiwi attitude gone.
Check out Gixxer and Choppa, Chopa is the marketing tool for results, Gixxer is the owner/manager, ie, ROI
