Now I'm admittedly the master of the quick quip in our family but I must admit to being outclassed by Mrs Oakie last night. (I mentioned this in a thread last night but the more I've thought of it today, the cleverer it gets.) I shall share.

Mrs Oakie asked me what she can knit when she finishes the jersey she's working on. I said "you can knit me a willy-warmer". She replied "yeah, I've got a pattern for toddlers gloves. I can just knit a thumb"!

Probably the best one-liner she's come out with in the 30 years I've known her.

....so she knows you intimatley then???

I think 27 years of marriage would suggest so.

Do they really make knitting needles that small???????????

Ixion
20th April 2009, 21:48
I don't get it . Is it humerous ?

The smallest size of knitting needle is around 2mm diameter, US gauge 0 , UK gauge 14 . The size relates of course to the diameter, the length is (almost) irrelevant.

But the size of the needles merely determines how 'fine' the knit will be, it is not related to the size of the finished article.

She's a very clever woman, your Mrs Oakie!

And you are either a very brave or a very silly man to be putting that on the interdweeb!

Brave of course! Nah, just thought it might give others a laugh and I'm secure enough not to worry about it being at my expense.

FFS! Do you have a pattern for BMW cardigans too?

Of course. Not my own work however, it was originally published in the newsletter of the UK BMW Owners' Club in 1963. I unashamedly purloined it.

Must have been about 1982 when Mrs Oakie knitted me a Kawasaki jersey. About the right shade of green with a big white Kawasaki style 'K' on the front. I had it for years.

I found out yesterday why my sons cooking teacher from 4 years ago, who is now my daughter's cooking teacher, doesn't like my children.

at cooking in the 3rd form (he and his best mate were both over 6' tall ..) they ducked down and hid behind the counter. at an opportune time they both stood up, frightening the shit out of the teacher. she said 'where did you boys come from?' my son said 'from our mother's vagina, miss'

the whole class collapsed in hysterics. she's hated him (and now his sister) ever since.
