Nothing like a juicy bit of historical revisionism, and the implication that the Maori tribes of pre-1840 had a common name for the islands that make up this country (or indeed anything at all in common other than a desire to destroy one another, as exemplified by all good, savage, stone-age cultures).

Of course, pointing out such facts is racist, so I immediately retract this statement to avoid being branded a redneck. All hail the mighty Maori, the once and future lords of this land.

Not like it's an original naming convention either: Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, North and South Korea, Carolina, Dakota and i'm sure there's a shitload more...
