Veiws on whats the best event and why. It can be as a spectator or competitor.
Maybe theres a formula for running such events. Discuss what aspects you as a racer or watcher like.

Sound of Thunder? Wanganui? Nationals? Road Race Spectacular? Burt Munro? Classic Festival? Paeroa? Greymouth? Club Series?

Sound Of Thunder....3 days(incl 1 test day) on my favourite track in NZ for $110 (including Transponders), hundreds of sexy bikes and sounds everywhere, loads of races to enter ( I did 8 but could have done more), totally well organised, big BAR at the track :msn-wink:,meet the coolest folk, and have a total blast :)

AWESOME!

I don't have to, but I agree.
Unlike a national meeting, there's actual racers there (!), enjoying themselves & being sociable. Also something about free meat and beer...
Sound of Thunder would be great - my bike makes the appropriate noises but there is something terrible about things made in japan? Isn't that where most `screamin eagle' parts are made?? Please enlighten.

Not many bikes run singles so it would have to be any Motard event especially Wangas and Paeros

what....................what I say :wari:

Wanganui a close second.

+1 for Castrol Six Hr (you didnt say "current")
Drama, pit action, brand rivalry in extreme and some of the best racing (our Golden era?) from the likes of Crosby, visiting Aussis, Hiscocks, Vince Sharpe, Robert Holden etc

Wanga's is my fave to race, really just because I love the track and the atmosphere...seemed very well run too.

As a racer... Greymouth street race, its about geography, the people, atmosphere, track, fresh air and racing as it was.

Next would be the battle of the buckets, cos its 1hr of fuking fun, compition, decent folk and snow.

put a poll up.

Id pick the Classic Festival for the best blend of racing & social scene.
For pure hard out adrenaline on the track its Paeroa.

I'd have to say that the Vicclub series is the most well organised events I've been to so far!!

One race though it would have to be Wanganui! First time racing there last year and it was soooooo much fun!!:shit:

As a spectator it would have to be up there with the best event.............but 2 litres of Jim beam in one day makes anything fun............the day after .......not so much.......

Wanganui, its been running for over 50 years, great racing, great circuit, coolest name "Cemetery Circuit" (Cliffhanger is second coolest name) great crowds an EVENT It is great to watch and GREAT to compete every racer must do at least one.
Imagine being in the Ace Cafe in London, modestly mentioning being a bike racer from NZ... and then having to admit you'd never done the "Cemetery Circuit" :weep:

Cliffhanger. There is nothing else like it in NZ...its just so damn fast and exiting. Also I like that you are racing agaist yourself, makes a plesant change to focus on yourself occasionally. Its our own mini TT.
Other than that, The John Britten memorial is the best (racing circuit) event I have been to.

What he said...nothing quite like taking your road bike on a closed road and just working to beat your time from that last run :2thumbsup

...but then I have only been a spectator (or not even attended) some of those other ones. Sound of Thunder definitely sounds like a good one to see

For me it's Wanaganui (so far). Am trying to get around to the other street races...eventually...for comparison. Maybe I can finally convince my old lady that's it's all in the name of research, science, etc.

Nothing here can compare to something like the Bol D'Or or Le Mans, but what we do have is still a blast....and a heck of a lot better than nothing at all.

Bring back endurance racing! Those are the best parties.

World Superbike manfield, castrol 6 Hour / Champion 2 Hour in its heyday. As far as current stuff is concerned & if public opinion/attendance is the deciding factor then it would have to be Wanagnui & Paeroa

I'm busting to get down South for a squirt but of the 1 day events I've done so far I see it like this:

Wanga's: great atmosphere but a pokey lil' 1 1/2 gear track. I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't blown a fork seal and had a pogo stick for a front end.

Paeroa: exciting track to ride, loved the flat out kink on the front straight, poor pit space, had a few issues with organisation but would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't busted my collar bone 3 days before hand.

Taupo Spectacular: best atmosphere (amongst competitors), best organisation by far, only blighted by running the motard track instead of the long circuit....oh and unrepaired pogo stick front end.

Cliffhanger: a unique event in NZ, awesome road, organised well and has a great atmosphere in the pits. My only bugbear was the road condition in 2008 after they screwed up the resealing but it sounds like it wasn't too much of an issue in 2009. Of all the current events listed this probably has the biggest growth potential, it's a bit of a hidden gem for a lot of folks

Cliffhanger...no contest. Even after my $hitty bad luck this year I'll still be going next year.
