To all those who have bought a new bike (or an expensive 2nd hand one), what did you manage to wrangle out of the shop as a freebie (or maybe big discount).
My last was a $540 helmet plus got 20% off other gear purchesed (jacket/gloves)

interested to know how generous some shops are when going for a sale.

Nothing quite like that but........
They supplied and fitted a ventura pack rack/full tank of gas and paid ORC...

Guy I bought the bandit off right then and there, gave me his gloves.
Also gave him 10$ for bus so he didn't have to break all those hundreds.

There's fuck all margin in new bikes, so don't expect a dealer to be overly generous.

Supplied and fitted Oxford heated grips, waterproof over gloves and changed the standard tyres for PR2's F.O.C. Always willing to do a deal on anyhting else purchased. A bloody top dealership and would recommend anyone speak to Greg of Greg Boyd Motorcycles (Honda) in Hamilton

Best I've been able to score was a discount on a new helmet...

Got a pathetic discount on a jacket that meant it ended up being only about 20% more expensive then comparable products from their competitors.

That was after spending 22 grand, Had another grand in the pocket for new gear, Ended up spending it elsewhere.

Now, how did that help the bike shop?, They had plenty of scope for discount on the gear, they had just pocketed a heap of cash, and I would have left the store as their biggest fan, rather then thinking they were tight fisted wankers and holding a grudge for ....uh......well, Its been 11 years now.

For a second hand bike I managed to get a new rear tyre, 6 months rego (it had expired) and free shipping from Chch to Palmie.

Six month's rego on the Goose, sweet FA on the Suzuki and the BMW!

Mind you, when we bought our house we got a Mr Hooker bear (woop de do!) and a tape measure...

Free rego...not much margins on scooters but they got me more for my bike than I paid for it when they sold on behalf

Wellington motorcycles picked me up from the airport, made me a coffee at the shop, asked me "how much are you expecting to pay for the new GSXR?"
They gave me $1000 off the new price, the charged $320 on road costs, then pointed me in the direction of a good backpackers to stay the night.
I had to buy a good tie down for the ferry and they charged me $96. When I got home I saw the same tie down in Budget's for $28. :oi-grr:
The cash discount is a measly 5% but better than a poke in the eye I s'pose.

I've never had a new bike, and I've bought only three bikes from dealers, one of which ('90 VFR750) was an OBO sale, so I got nothing for that - they wouldn't even take my bike ('85 VF500) to sell for me, as they said it was too crappy.
When I originally bought the VF, I got a small discount on boots and a helmet.

When I bought the VFR800, they replaced the crappy bright yellow headlight protector with a clear one, didn't fix up the things I asked them to attend to, didn't have the bike ready when it was supposed to be, ripped me off (and lied to me) about my trade-in, and didn't have a Ventura pack rack (which they were "generously" going to go halves on) fitted like they were supposed to, saying there were none available from the suppliers. This turned out to be bullshit, as I got one quite easily through Motohaus, and then told them and asked them to pay their half. Then they refused and whined about how this meant they couldn't make a margin on it, and offered in the end to give me the equivalent value in vouchers (a whole $50, which would've cost them maybe $25?) to use at their store.
Whoopee.
There was nothing in their shitty shop I really wanted or needed, so I bought some (crappy) $49 gloves for my wife.

So that is why, over the last four years, I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on bike gear, servicing, tyres, consumables, bike parts, and accessories, and not one cent at a certain Auckland Honda shop, which I will never EVER visit again, thanks to them turning what could have been a great experience into a crap one. They got what they wanted: a good profit on the VFR, a good profit on the VTR, and demonstrated that they ARE the sharks they seemed to be, and don't give a shit about customer service.

Lesson learned. For me, at least. I think they are beyond learning anything about customer service, and don't care.
Over the space of 48 hours, I went from being really happy, and deciding I was going to get them to do all my servicing, tyres, etc., to being a very unhappy ex-customer.

Never fear, They backed up that genius move with some of the foulest after sales service I have ever come across. Generally amused themselves by talking down to the youngster buying the flash bike and talking out there arses. (hell, I was 20 at the time so that was near 15 years ago not 11). The fuckers, Think they are flash because they sell the shit, Fuckin pathetic.(hmmm....what a bitter fucker I am)

Anyway, Fuck em, The entire Harley Davidson trip sucks balls.

Triumph FTW.

From memory, the total bill for the bike was less than sticker (inc ORC) and included in the deal were accessories at 20% off (probably one thousands worth?). Could probably have got something on the first service, but I didn't intend on going back

edit: oh, and I got rid of my old bike, which nobody had bought. Got raped on that, but better than it not being sold. :D

Brought my bike from Emoto here in chch. Got a great deal for paying cash ended up knocking 10% + on road costs off. Then gave a further discount on a helmet..
After 3 weeks my bike wouldn't start. Cut a long story short ended up with a brand new battery and rectifier. They gave me a loner bike while we had to wait for parts.
Apart from having to wait a while for the part to arrive I can not fault they service in dealing with me and wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone.
My 10c worth

For a cash deal I got a Ventura headlight guard and pack rack. The Kwak had the mounting kit so I just got the rack part.

They were not deal breakers but I had seen similar models with the goodies included for a similar price.

Got my SV1000 through Scott at MR Motorcycles in Pukekohe. He not only bettered Colemans "Best cash price" by a thousand dollars, and he had to get a bike in, Colemans had one sitting there. He always gives me a discount on anything I buy. I don't ask he just gives. That is exceptional customer service as far as I am concerned.

P.S I don't have a issue with the accesory dept a Colemans, just the bike sales guys.

Shop? Not following you. Where does a shop fit into the purchase of a 2nd hand bike?
