Ok, I needed to move the reservoir from the right side of the bike to the left side (some electronics were in the way and I need to loose 100mm in seat width.
Do you think this is as easy as unbolting it and putting it on the other side.
No - its not.
Where the reservoir hose attaches to the main unit is 2mm too low, so when you loosen the bolt to piviot it around, the compression lock nuts get in the way, so you need to either undo the nut more (fluid pisses out), or compress the shock (fluid pisses out).
So if there are any Ohlins designers out there - raise your reservoir hose off the main unit by 2mm please - ie. put a spacer in.
Just goes to show that even well known brand names can still produce stupid bits on their designs (ohlins design their shocks so the reservior is mounted on the right side - even the logo is printed on the right).
Its a type 46fcs.

Keep us updated as I'm interested in how this turns out and yes I would have thought that the fluid is replacrable, but what a hassle that never needed to happen. :brick:

Yeah, the fluid is replacable, and hopefully only a small amount squirted out and there was enough in the reservior not to make any difference. Buggered if I want to remove the shock to work on it.
This is part of my learning to make a rear seat unit program, so it one of those many tweaks I find I need to make.
Still, now I can make the seat part of the tail unit very narrow and the tail unit can be brought in so thats only as wide as the fairing, and with the new angle I can make a duct so I can flow air on to the rectifier (one of the bits that gets warm).
Youd think that Ohlins would make a left hand drive monoshock. Mind you, they do drive on the right in their part of the world. :)

Damn right, my dad accidentally unscrewed the idle adjuster off, so we had to take the tank off, and the airbox to get to the carbs and then buy some funny 90 degree angled pliers to screw the bugger back in
Got some neat pics to show you of that week, but scanners not working. I'll get all that sorted soon
BTW, anyone got an old AX100 for free/cheap? I want to have a bike to dismantle and play around with, and the CBR isn't the ideal bike to do that too

Didn't have to get any special pliers though. Just took the tank off and i could put it back on.

bro--might be more serious than that--I think its a gas over shock--when ya let the fluid out ya lost all gas pressure and youll need to regas it

Bugger I hope not. Didnt hear the fizzle noise and it still seems to work. But it can go to the back of the list and I'll check it next summer.

Ever dismantled the airbox? I you haven't of got some neat photos of the butterfly valves!
