Winds has dropped down here - but so is the rain!!

Intermittent showers and darkening clouds heading up from the south.

I went down for the ride but decided my camping gear wasn't up to the challenge. Got the badge then shot back to Christchurch yesterday. Awesome ride. Weather not too good today. Safe ride home everyone.

Picked up my 20 year badge at the gate, n headed straight for the VIP tent! 10 year n up members get free Tui, and bangers at the Orange Tui tent. Thats a good start to the night.
It turned into a very warm & pleasant afternoon & evening. A classic Central Otago winters day.
I followed Goblin & Doc's instructions to find KB camp along the fenceline but gave up in disgust. Finally met Shrek who led me correctly to the furtherest away group of tents (allow 20mins walk!) overlooking the lake, where we had our own fire & stack of wood.
A great night was had, with 2 "friends" getting completely blithery, & incoherant. I will not mention names BUT if $ were to pass my way etc, LOL. FJRrider had been having lessons from Nighthawk with regard to piccy taking, IN YA FACE! so as the Elder of our group I had to take him aside & point out the personal space rule!
A skiff of snow on the Vegas this morning but nothing more came of it.
Outbakal & I rode back thru Alexandra to Dunedin & had a relatively dry run home.
C ya all @ Pissed Penguin in Sept.

The end off the world is nigh, the sky is falling.........

Bollocks, and my balls are still intact and attached.

Lovely rally, nice and mild day and evening.
Good band, great company, surreal surroundings.
Bit of snow/hail and rain on the way back......but nothing an extra layer of polyprop couldn't handle.

Back again next time?
You bet!

so sth we headed stoped in at 98tls's for lunch only to find him not there as he was called away to help a mate who had a mishap with his cage so we had lunch at cafe where 98 found us
road to Palmy & the weather was looking like will we make it to Ranfurly, so 98 headed home & we went in land only to find after a few k's had to pull over & get the sun visor's & glasses out & on not a cloud to been seen in front of us
a very nice ride was had through the pig root, got to Ranfurly into the hut gear sorted then off to town, back to hut for an early ish night

woke up to another almost cloudless day & frost it was going to be magic again :woohoo:

got to the site before lunch set up then headed out to ......... can't spell it for lunch then into Alex for fuel x 2 & back to camp

had a few  then dinner by candle light with GB & Mr S :msn-wink:

then let the fun begin  :apint: :wari: was great catchin up every one & meeting some new faces lol. one of the best parts of sat night was the doing the knight thing from the back of the bike & seeing the fear in the others eyes as the lance hit his chest & took them both out both times every thing else that happened .... not telling :bleh:

no one moved that fast this morning we got a dusting of snow in the night & some while having breaky & talking about the night b4 after that the sun came out
we got a bit of snow through the pig root & a bit of rain nith of ashvagus but other than that dry roads & a great weekend with some very :shifty: peeps, lets to it again

:2thumbsup for my riding mates cheers guys

Another great Brass Monkey experience enjoyed by all who made the pilgrimage. And pilgrimage it is. This rally has waxed and waned over the years with attendance varying from 1500 to 3500 people, but it has never been small or uninteresting.

The site is on a wonderfully exposed Central Otago ridge with views over the Ida Dam to the magnificent Hawkdun Range to north. It's remote, harsh, and spartan - and that is the point. Riding to the Brass isn't something you do for an afternoons ride.

Despite weather forecasts, Saturday was benign and sunny. Indeed the lads I was with had the requisite t-shirts, shorts and jandals. Well, for as long as it took for a quick snapshot..... :D Built a shelter, laid in the firewood and we were set.

Later I stumbled (rhetorical) over some near-do-wells clustered around a hammock and favoured them with my company - cos I'm good like that. :niceone: The prosaically named Mr Sensible, the mysterious Ghostbullet, the eponomous Shrek, accompanied by the anti-global warmist Salthydog, and the ever urbane Doc with the lovely Goblin. And others whose identities escape me at the moment but great to meet you. Oh and of course, the effervescent Woodybee!

No sign of the Nighthawk or Xaria but I suppose Dunedin is a long way.....

The band IMHO were very talented, playing some skillful guitar sets. It wasn't ACDC or Rolling Stones but personally I like watching a band play well. Perhaps the vocalist could just stick to playing lead tho......

Started to snow about 11pm, just light skiffs which became more determined as the night drew on but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of various groups clustered around drums. There were quite a few chaps I could hear making no sense at - and very loudly - at 4am.

We woke to a liberal sprinkling of hard snow all over but the drums rekindled readily enough making the struggle into the dawn just a little kinder. Coffee and some more ritual abuse of the KB folk - why do you guys camp so far from everything....?? Then on the road with the snow blowing away and into a nice if cold ride home.

Thanks for your company everyone, this Brass was certainly worth attending. :apint:

It was my first Brass Monkey but it certainly won't be my last. We met some great people who proclaimed us to be Monkey Virgins (it's been along time since I've been called that!!)

The ride there on Saturday was excellent. Great roads, sun shining lots of bikes.

I really hope the guy that came off his Harley and required an ambulance is okay.

To all the friendly people I met - thanks for making it a wonderful time.

Even riding home today in the snow, hail and rain didn't matter. It was all part of the great experience.

Also my first monkey. Three of us geoff.c and owen from wellington left Oamaru at 11.45am saturday. Called at Fleurs Place to meet up with some other riders from Oamaru, several were scared by Jim Hickys gloomy forcast turned around at Palmerston. Great ride to the site, flew around the site in the hellicopter there and took some photos.Enjoyed thre food, band and booze. Jumped on the free shuttle and went to the local pub for a drink then back to the site. Meet a few new people and caught up with others. Sky was looking pretty mean this morning so time to move and managed to keep clear of it all. Will be back next year.

The weekend done and dusted, and work in the morning. But finally gone through the pictures and trimmed them back some.
All in all a fab weekend. Had a great night on Friday night, Saturday was awesome, and a light Sat night. Got a text in the early eveing, Mrs Bullet had a severe migraine, and was taken to hospital to get sorted. So hence restricted the liquid intake somewhat, as was hoping to head back Chch early, though batt on Gris' decided to play low, and would not spin the mighty Italian. (time for a new one me thinks)

Hey Dudes and Dudess's

Wow I am so glad those good for nothing weather forecasters got the weather wrong what a fanatsic weekend, I have ridden to worse in the summer........Hailstorm, torrential raing to Waikia. In fact I have thought about all the rallies this year and most of them seem to have had inclemment weather. Waimoomoo was the windiest ever.......

Anyway back to the Chilly Monkey. Saw loads of packed up bikes heading towards Cromwell on Friday and suddenly thought why the f..k havent I took Friday off and gone and partied on................now realise what a stupid mistake that was.,........oh well.......

Saw Donna and Anton and couple of other dudes at Kellyis on Friday arvo in the sunny weather and cud have :crybaby: man

Saturday morning I was met with a sulky Tex whose battery decided to spit the dummy and couldnt go anyway, so Chris QT Biker met me jump started the bike and off me and Bri set off and rode to Cromwell to encounter the thickest coldest erriest darkest fog ever.....boy the temperature dropped as did the riding pose:cold: blimey I was nearly horizontal on Tex......

Cromwell shone, and we nearly shot past the Gate, but there seemed to be hoards of bikes outside that pub so we spun round and chewed the kud with a few of them, but didnt recognise too many faces, the Brass seems to bring out totally different folk eh......as welll as us Hardened KBer's......

Got to Alex and sawy mymates from Welly there, and a dude from Riversdale and then there were 4 of us riding off to Otehura...........what a laugh riding in a group, I have spent so long riding on my own, that I literally smile all the way there in a crowd..............

Set up camp in Ote, right in front of the Stunt Riders who were fantastic to watch,,,,,,,cud never imagine doing that, but wow would love to learn.......Lovingly put text to bed with a blaket a cover and a cuddle.....and yeah party commenced then really

Ran briefly into Winston, and then Jeff My irish buddy got the mulled wine out and the wandering commenced and it all got rather messy.......nestled down with a really groovy bunch from the west coast, drak bourbon......yuk.....one of the group said he was a gynacolagist, yeah right, a builder...of course, dipperr:lol:

Kinda abandoned them when we all went to the fire, then bullshit conversation ensued, boogying boogied, and the rain started........not many firewalkers this year strangley.....................The band were fab, I think!!!

Went to bed in an absolute comma and woke up to the pitter patter of snow following the violent shaking of my tent..................grr chaning my tent I think.....briefly looked outside and went straight back to sleep,, luckily Bri and Jeff my two travelling buddies are as lazy as me, and we all slept in till bout 10ish......how the hell you can sleep through bikes is beyond me, but it seems to happen easily when in a drunken stupor.

The ride home, was hazy, but thanks to Watties Bike Brekky came right quick enough, and saw a convoy of bikes in front of me which always makes me smile and sigh.........................Biking is so much a part of me now its untrue.

The craggyness and wildness of Central leaves me speechless and my head spins like an owl looking at all the drmatic scenery rushing past. God I lvoe the diverness of the scenery here, unbeeeeeeeeeeeeelievable.........thought I would get used to ithaving been here for 5 years but nuh.

Anyway, that was it really..........got home, was going to have a granny nap until my mate had a puncture so had to go and rescue him and trundled off to see "State of Play" at the cinema, got back at 3am, so all in all a rather pissy fun weekend......

I love rallies:woohoo::rockon::wari::Punk:

Great to see the sun shine and :bleh: to all those softcocks who were scared off by the potential weather......you missed out on a goody

Thanks to Otao Motorcyle Club for a Fantastic Rally......good on yer mates.

Yup sure do, it was stitting at 11.6volts when tried to start, but then on Sat I did leave me hot grips on for a few hours by mistake, so that itself may have taken the edge off. But it started fine straight after turning them off, just the cold me thinks.

Looked for you lot along the deer fence, where the KB flag normally hangs.
We did see the drum fire up on the far hill but figured those guys must be a dodgy lot & wanted to be left alone, especially as I was supposed to be minding the two best looking girls at the Rally.

We raised over $1,350 for St Johns at the Brass (bloody fantastic) plus there are other donations we accepted along the way that is yet to be counted.

If you have already donated then a big thanks - I think the Maniototo St Johns are still in shock!! It was ironic that their member who accepted the money had attanded to a fallen (Brass) biker just the day before.

Otherwise it's not too late to donate to St Johns on line - check out the Pooey thread here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=95173
Pooey's Brass trip story & pics will be posted up over the next few days.

Looked for you lot along the deer fence, where the KB flag normally hangs.
We did see the drum fire up on the far hill but figured those guys must be a dodgy lot & wanted to be left alone, especially as I was supposed to be minding the two best looking girls at the Rally.

Didn't see Pooey but did unload all the non-folding cash I had into the St Johns bucket.

bag of coal kept the fire going nicely all nght. Sidecars are handy things for carrying stuff.

Yup sure do, it was stitting at 11.6volts when tried to start, but then on Sat I did leave me hot grips on for a few hours by mistake,
the wossie hot grips will do it... however a good battery should be at 13V and the amps, the importent bit should be reading 0.00 :Punk:

Well its been a horror trip so far. Bike started no problem at rally site. Until we were ready to leave, tried to start again but battery bit low so called in the battery ute. They are pretty helpfull but still couldn't get it to start, was at trying to at first though. Good samaritans Kiwicowboy and Fjrider helped out with getting bike onto trailer and off to Kiwcowboys shed, cos he had tools. Dismantled bike to get plugs out wet and fouled up so cleaned and tried , no go. Stayed the night with Kiwi and his lady, with plugs on top of fireplace. No go, so off to Alex for new plugs. She started first attempt. Left 3pm on the monday to Cromwell. Faark it gets cold there. Tues off to Wanaka beaut weather, just sightseeing etc. Wed off to Haast 30km from Wanaka couldn't find a gear pull over and had lost all the drive chain components on the rear wheel . Found the two largest parts but unable to find the Jesus nut and one spacer. Back to Wanaka get recovery and storage . Now bitch on the back, overnighting at Haast heading up Westcoast. Faark its cold on the back without hotgrips. Now sailing sat. Still having great time tho. After all its only money. We are attempting to spend out way out of this recession.

Howd those poles work out fella?

From what I could see, very well. In fact I'm interested in how Shrek designed the pole because it had a fair bit of er....weight to support.

Crikey Doc, sorry to hear of your travails. That which does not break us, makes us stronger. You'll laugh about it in time to come and Goblin did say you were planning another trip south.

Another Monkey done, for me anyway. It's not over for Doc until he gets his bike home. Yes kiwi cowboy...really glad I have an old 'onda!:dodge:

Was cool to catch up with Quenthany, Shrek, xknuts, Winston001 and FJRider and to meet the salty ole dog and the lovely Rosie, 98tls, and a couple of others whose names escape me atm. Had a blast at the rally with you lot! Watching Shrek jousting was a crack up. No one wanted to play after he rammed them into next week.

Have to say a huge thanks to kiwi cowboy and lovely Lisa for putting up with us for the night and feeding us. Really wanted to stay for the roast too. Also FJRider for kindly offering to help us out. He was last to leave the site.

Was an interesting trip home 2 up from Wanaka...and the bitch on the back never complained once!

Looking foward to the Do in December then the 30th Monkey.

Of course it helped finding a nice quiet piece of floor to lay down on while the boat rocked and shuddered through the rough stuff.

Yipee got a call from the shipping firm this morning bike has arrived. :Punk:

Whipped in to pick it up and :shit: they have damaged it , broken brake lever worn paint of edge of tank, torn rubber handgrip and snapped a mirror off. Faarkin bet they flattened the battery too.

Is that depression thread still going. Looks like I might again be bitch if I want to go to the Kiwi.
