Nope, afaik the only reg (apart from engine capacity) is the fuel type. Not allowed some flashy fuel types, but they are banned for all classes of racing.

Its pretty self regulating, since you can only buy a few different bikes and NZ doesn't have the big money like europe (i.e. 100k+ to spend on a bike) there are no opportunities to cheat.

I'm guessing that is missing from MNZ website [can't find my rule book hard copy anywhere!!]

do frames have to be prototype?? are you boys sure??
I would have thought there would have to be some regs, regarding spec's...
as some people would surely build there own machines??

Why would they need to be? If someone thinks they can do a better job than honda or yamaha then so be it. If bradley smith wanted to do some winter riding then there is nothing stopping him coming over and breaking a few lap records.

It's an open class dude - the only regs are engine capacity and fuel, nothing else. build one if you like, or use a road based frame, there's nothing stopping anyone doing it - except common sense !
125's are a GP bike based class, and the rules are just nothing like the production classes.
Cool, eh ?

there isa general tech section in the rules (chapter 10) that all bikes must adhere to. there are no specil rules for 125 gp bikes or 250 gp bikes, maybe they just figured the cream will rise to the top. its not a proddy class where people may cheat , its a gp class where innovation is welcomed. the only limit is the displacment

Normally in the bracket of high 60's low 70's. It hard to lighten these little fellas as not much to them in the first place

I weighed mine at 72kg wet with no fuel. As dom said, there is not a whole heap to do to loose weight. You can spend a few grand on carbon fairings etc and that might gain you 1-2kg but apart from that it is very little gains to be had. Unless you have some serious dosh it is hard to get them much lighter/faster than they come off the assembly line.

yea depending on the dyno ( a lot of variation probably + or - 10hp) a really good one might make 40hp at the wheel. which would be good for at least 210Kph at pukie depending on the rider obviously

Mine made 42 hp last weekend at the MCR dyno shoot out.

I had mine on one 6 months ago and it was doing 42hp (on a dynojet). That would probably be up there with the best around. Might be the odd one in NZ with a little more. Not sure how much the world gp ones put out. Peak hp is quite easy to get on these, its spread that is so important and costs lots of money.

Man, aint that the truth ! I saw a graph of one of the Moto Liberty bikes from a few years ago, and the peak was quite impressive, but the biggest difference compared to ours was the MASSIVE spread of power - I'm no joking, it was just huge :eek5:

Don't forget to look at the proposed rule changes.

There is a proposal to allow 250 four strokes.
Or is that in already?

Aussy has this (they use the MD250's), i don't see it coming too new zealand for a couple years yet. Unless someone makes a custom one with a 250 mx engine in it.
Nevertheless in aussie, the 125's are still in front of the 250's.

It must be hideosly expensive to run a fours stroke in the state of tune it would require to get close to a 125!

The very last JHA kit (30,000 euro's worth) was claimed to have put out close to 54hp!!

but once again, that all depends on which gear and which dyno. we found that you lose a couple of horsepower per gear higher (rear wheel and chain drag)
