I have been sitting thinking about last year's MNZ elections.

199 votes where cast.

Potential votes go like this:

CLUBS 68 times three = 204

Licence holders 5500 approx???

Official/Stewards etc 200 approx???

Total potential votes 5900

Assuming 34 (50%)clubs voted that's 102 VOTES

which leaves 97 votes between 200 Officials and 5500 licence holders

I personally have been told by over 20 individuals that they VOTED for ME as On-Road Board Member.

SORRY THESE NUMBERS DON'T ADD UP

What's your point?

I think the point BJT666 is trying to make is although everyone on MNZ is apathetic.

30 of 68 clubs, 30 of 200 officials and only 79 licence holders out of 5500.

Just doesn't ring true

It's not just MNZ. Voluntary associations and clubs for almost any purpose suffer similar issues.

Three years ago I was involved in winding up a long-standing professional association. While we had few problems attracting interested people to our events and getting them to pay membership dues, we couldn't get enough committed folk to act as directors. We operated for almost a year with not enough directors to muster a quorum at board meetings. Such behaviour is unethical, which left no option but to wind up.

Maybe Jim might look at on-line voting for us to lift the numbers by the sheer convience.

I have been thinking about the mail-out issue.

To be honest, the more I analyse it, the more it looks like B.S.

Everyone got their licences, from that one can assume the addresses work.

But now when there is an ELECTION, which could effect change both in the Administration and the Office which supports it,

THERE IS A PROBLEM.

When the PROBLEM is discovered by the Masses, first they ignore it, then they state, it is only a few (I hear there are several hundred involved, if you go on last years figures that is the total voting membership) and then they make it as hard as possible for people to excerise their given RIGHT.

ASKING PERMISSION OF A PAID EMPLOYEE TO VOTE IN AN ASSOCIATION ELECTION.

Anyone looking from outside would die laughing.

So - there is no "minimum response rule" to voting ?, - One would think that there would be an accepted minimum cut-off so as to obtain a fair view of things ?. maybe by making it more convienient for members we might see a lift ?, they would appear by their numbers to have the greatest potential to influence the result , yet they are the most minimal (% wise) to respond to voting.
Maybe voting could be done at license renewal time (or vice-versa ) when everyone is pretty much obligated to participate.
Please note - I dont know what i am talking about !, im just throwing ideas in the hat.

Presumably MNZ is an incorporated society or similar which has a constitution or rules? Elections and voting should only be done in accordance with those rules. If they aren't, then any outcome is invalid. Also if those rules don't allow for electronic ballots, then you can't run an election that way until the rules are changed. The rules will also describe the process to be followed for changing rules (usually at an AGM with a prescribed number of paid-up members present).

I urge you people to study your organisation's rules/constitution and to hold office holders responsible for complying with them.

I concur. Also, apathy would arguably help the incumbent dogma. More of the same is not a desirable option, and if we get more of the same the industry will start pulling support. Not good.

Further to that, MNZ members are already our own worst enemy. Had we not displayed total apathy in recent years and instead taken a SLIGHT interest in what ultimately concerns us all, we would not be in the current managment crisis we find ourselves sinking into.

We simply need to take more interest and make the required changes happen. It aint actually that hard.

well every cloud has a silver lining ... so hopefully the recent huge number of posts and comments about the MNZ issues will see either a change in CEO and President or much improved incumbents re elected aware that the natives are getting restless and improved communication, responsiveness and accountability are seriously needed.

Couldn't agree more.

The interesting thing will be, do those so disaffected feel strongly enough to have voted.

Voting closed 5.00pm last Thursday.

The Die is Cast.

Well said Hitcher - thats EXACTLY why the so-called sh1t stirrers have been stirring sh1t, we HAVE the rules and regulations, and it appears that the powers that be havent been adhering to them ( unless it suits ! )
