I think if the SI guys are havin fun, then we should too & maybe a little healthy(!) competition for the best/most tags between them & us - just for fun!

Same rules/guidelines as Nordie posted for the Top of the South Tag-O-Rama!

Here's the first one taken late morning today on my way back from dropping some KLX250S spares to Sam (3L4NS1R) from AKL as he got off the Bluebridge ferry!

Not too difficult but will get us started:

Yeah I know about that but ......

You may have missed some earlier comments by the Welly Adv guys - we're just havin some fun with our SI ADV brethren IN THE SAME FORUM is all! Not dissin the other KB thread or anything! With a similar thread for each area in the same forum it gives us a chance to interact with our friends in the top of the SI & them with us, as we can post to their thread when visiting the SI and vice versa - just a chance for some fun and building our friendships without having to scoot around other forums just to play tag with each other is all!

Thx for gettin goin with this on our fair isle Aslan, but........

...... as was reminded of those participating in the SI Tag game on Noride's thread:

the idea is if you know where the location is, you don't say(!) but you go take a pic of your bike at the same spot and post it here to "tag" it. The first one to do so then takes their bike to a new spot(doesn't have to be immediately tho!) and takes a photo at the next location(with your bike in it!) and posts that one on here too, and then someone else has to try be first to "tag" that location, and so and so on!

And preferably noone gives the location away BEFORE someone has "tagged" it!

Hope that helps a bit to clarify!

So, Aslan has unwittingly given away the locale for the first tag; so who's gonna be first to post a "tag" pic of my first locale up on here and get to post the second tag locale photo?

My wife thinks I was mad going out on a windy night. But a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do to TAG. Have done a private tour inside the hill & it's pretty amazing.

Next location in planning.

Cause the Ducati rego is on hold, and cause there's a trailer full of builders mix and a pile of mortar sand in front of it.

OK yeah maybe I was a tad harsh (sorry laxi!) but my response was in response to his claim that he basically couldn't be arsed to search for a tag location and because that was how he felt, he then spoonfed the whole damn tag location to everyone without even thinking that someone might enjoy trying to figure out where it was or enjoy having a nice ride to try and find it based on a CLUE Laxi might have given! Fair play to him for moving it along, BUT the idea is to possibly give a clue if you think its necessary, NOT give the exact freekin location and provide a farkin map to get there.....sheesh! And on top of that it wasn't even a freekin hard location, I mean just how many of us have been over the summit of the Akatarawa Rd and looked at THAT view and/or been there to access Odlins Rd opposite? IMHO he was takin the p*ss, or at least selfishly not thinking of others enjoyment of the game beyond just the ride to get there.

Rant over - no more comments from me even if goaded - back to the game!!

BTW, I been lookin at cheap cameras today, so hopefully soon I can play again instead of being a spectator (or whingin Pom LOL!)! ;)

naaah... sign says no motorcycles on the swingbridge... and you weren't :msn-wink:

that place has a bit of history for me as I used to live in the last farmhouse (since destroyed by fire) before the rangers house.

Friends of mine used to live in the two Waterworks houses that used to be just over the road bridge in your pic but have been removed now since the site is no longer manned.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ11 (same as TZ4 in US).

Its last yrs model; they're gettin sold off cheap now as the TZ4 & 5(TZ15) have been replaced by the TZ6 & 7(otherwise known as the ZS1 & ZS3). I'm no pro photographer so it'll probs be plenty enuf camera for me!

Should be useful on Adv rides with 28-280mm Leica lens!!!! Would have loved to have had the TZ5, 6 or 7 but just couldn't afford one, pushed the envelope a bit too much financially as it was! :crybaby:

Hey dave are you saying suzuki make shit parts, maybe you need to buy a kawasaki. In reality it'll be the risers on top of the orginal risers you have to fit your bars, putting extra leverage on the orginal mounting bolts, that is making the bolts bend easily, the weak point has just been moved from the bars to mounting system. You probably get less vibration through the alloy Bars though.

Cheers

Last Saturday I didn't even crash, just laid the bike down as i stepped off and the freekin riser bolt bent - on hardpacked mud no less! Shit quality Suzuki parts.... grrrrrrrr!

possibly it was damaged from one of your other off's?
Also if its mounted in rubber cones they can twist in the cones and appear like the riser is bent.

you can get aluminum replacements for the rubber cones that eliminate this problem (and increase bar vibration)

:crybaby:

Nice camera. Good price too. :niceone:

Nice camera. Good price too. :niceone:

Yeah LV Martin had them on special; lowest price I could find in the whole of NZ at £349.99! The Lower Hutt branch had 2 left in stock on Wednesday and Harvey Norman upstairs from them had already told me they would price match! So I went upstairs, got same price at Harvey Norman(even tho they had it at $470 in the cabinet on sale!) and got them to give me 4GB of memory and lens cleaning kit for free just so i would buy from them!

Was well happy!

The TZ15(TZ5) from last year is nice but an extra $150 for a 3" screen, 1Mp more and HD video & a few other little tiny options, probs not worth it for me as i'm no pro photographer & won't be doin loads of manual settings!

However...........

A guy just came round and paid me cash for my diving dry suit, so now I'm thinking if i'd waited just 2 days more I could have had a TZ7!!!!

BUGGER!!!!!

:crybaby:

Not that I really NEED a TZ7, but you know, us guys like to have our expensive toys don't we, even if we don't use em as much as we should!

In honour of the Roadie who recently called us "Adventure Pussies" and due to the fact that this IS an Adv/DS forum, I thought it was about time the Tag got offroad and have a bit of tongue-in-cheek light-hearted fun at the same time!
;)
OK, so it's not hardcore offroad, but I thought we'd give the Roadies a chance at the first offroad Tag! IMHO, this Tag is doable on a roadbike as I have no doubt Pete from Westport who did Big River Track on his Wee-Strom on the recent Invasion Ride, could've done it this afternoon on that bike!(and NO he doesn't have offroad tyres or a bashplate fitted! :bleh: )

So c'mon Roadies, who's got balls big enuff to match those penis extensions you ride around on and take your bike to this Tag? You guys have so much testosterone I'm sure it'll be a piece of piss for ya!!!!
:devil2:

Oh and since some Roadies like directions to the exact location of the Tag, I thought out of consideration I should do the same for them for the first offroad one........

Adv styleeeeeeeee!!!!
(ok from a hip hop perspective its rubbish, but have a laugh with it anyway!) ;)

Turn off the main road & over 2 bridges,
Look all around at the beautiful ridges,
At the end of the road, there's a map, have a look,
Or if you're already shitting it, you could always book!
Onto the track, OMG! there's puddles,
Just keep straight ahead,
And you can't get muddled.
Turn left, OH SHIT! Theres a steep down slope!
Blast thru the creek & up other side - roadies, u might need a rope!
Turn left, & the puddles keep gettin deeper,
Goddam it, my road bike was such a keeper :(
Keep going, over a stream - holy shit, a big rock slide!
Man that scared me, and I almost cried.
Over next rockslide, hundreds of puddles now,
Its gettin much rougher, you might shout "Holy Cow"!
Thank god.... the track's now gettin smooth as wood,
Sorry, you're gettin cocky before you should!
Go left at the main fork and then take a deep breath,
And then THROUGH THE BIG RIVER we call "Road Bike Death"!!!
Just round the corner....... you're almost there,
It's the sign in the tag pic..... just stop & stare!!!!!

Roadies it's only 6k offroad ......... each way! LOLOLOL! Best hurry tho or some Adv pussy will get there first! ;)

Oh and if you'd really like to have some extra fun, time it gettin there for just as the last light of the day goes in order to get the pic, and then ride back out in the rain & dark like I did tonite! Its a blast!!!

And I took it easy on you; ya don't even have to ride up or down any steep, yellow, slimey-as-snot clay!

:devil2:

Have FUN!!!!!!!!

(The clue(for the Roadies) is in the photo!)

Ya don't need a knobbly, HTFU and go for it!

If Pete can do the Big River on the Wee-Strom on road tyres & no bashplate, you can do THIS! Only REALLY tricky bit is the first river crossing with steep muddy/rocky entrance & exit - it'll be a challenge on yer road bike tyres in this weather - but you road guys are hard arses aren't ya?????? There's no huge rocks in the big river crossing, honest!

;)

I went easy on ya - not even any steep slick yellow slimeysnot clay to ride up or down!!!!!

:devil2:

Go on, you know you wanna!

I didn't say we were being reckless - just applied positive mental attitude, as opposed to wimpering along in 1st gear behind the cages!

I didn't do any unsafe passing manouvres at all - gave that bullshit up years ago - I don't pass unless I can see clear road ahead - I leave that to the boy racers on their 26 yr old 250's that they just about afforded by saving up their paper round money!!

100kmh on gravel is waaaaayyyyyyyyy more fun than 200kmh on seal anyway. :bleh:

Anyway :Offtopic: , when's someone going to bring that damn tag north, or am I going to have to come down there and steal it. :Punk:

problem with R1 is 200 k is EASY......they can be nice and mellow, but they will crank it up to nearly 300 k in no time at all!

Ok OK!
Finally got out this afternoon!
Seems that Paladin started a trend of a rhyme to give a clue...

Down on the beach its not hilly,
but it does get remarkably chilly,
So I pulled up by a stump,
Then this man got the hump;
So he shouted and waved me his willy!

Now if that and the photo arent a huge clue, then you should buy a suzuki intruder and set up your own stump somewhere:buggerd:

On the roadies game, the tag normally changes places within hours...
