I'm ready, with any luck I should get rain and snow tomorrow....predicting snow to 500m in the ranges behind Napier! :cold:
WooHoo! The Rangitaiki Tavern is about 750m ASL & it is kinda behind Napier.
Anyway, I told ya that over 2 months ago:
100% chance it will rain, a 50% chance of snow
Cheers

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2666319/Train-derails-in-Upper-Hutt
Wild weather is wrecking havoc around Wellington tonight with one slip closing State Highway 1 in the middle of peak hour traffic and another derailing a train.
A tree had come down causing the slip at Pukerua Bay, 35km northeast of Wellington, about 5.30pm, Inspector Mike Coleman, of Central police communications, said.
The nearest alternate route, Paekakariki hill road, was also closed about 6.30pm due to a large amount of gravel washed onto the road. Rimutaka Hill road had also been closed about 8pm, police said.
A slip derailed a train enroute from Wellington to Masterton as it left a tunnel at Maymorn north of Upper Hutt, about 6.15pm.
That must be about every exit.

I have posted some photos in my album, have a look if you want to....Not many as I was too busy riding..:third:
UPDATE: Muffler is off and F1 Engineering said it can be Tig welded no problem...I went into my local Piako Stainless, these guys put together silos and tankers. Pick it up this afternoon he said and it will be good as new....Awesome living in a little town sometimes...:)

I just got a txt from GunnyRob, unfortunately despite the attentions of the roving BMW engineering team the R1200 canbus is still a 'can'tbus' & the GS is getting a ride home with the AA. Bummer. But I guess only having one major issue out of 30 odd bikes isn't too bad a result for the weekend.

Rode home from Rotovegas today, Heck of a good frost :shit: Worked out well as it turned out. I decided to go through Cecil / Leslie Rd to see what it was all about. Gates were open at both ends. The Cecil Rd end was a hell off a mess but only for a short distance. Fortunatly due to the big frost all the mud was frozen solid so the bus just bounced over the top  Smaller bikes would get through most days but I wouldnt want to be in there with all my nomates if the mud wasn't frozen.
From there it was off to Mangakino, through to Bennydale, Waimiha, Ongarue across to Okahura Saddle Rd, Waitaanga's, Kiwi Rd (it would be rude not too) Okoki and home.
Shame to miss so much of the organised ride. Next year we will measure the depth of the water more accurately than using the tops of the marker pegs as being ok
Also won't leave a fellow biker again until I am 100% that he is safe  Even if he isnt on a beemer :Punk:

A brief and naturally "truthful" account of the last couple of days, excuse the photo quality, I blame the camera.
1. Evidence that 990's actually do get cleaned once in a while, starting off on friday morning and heading from Auckland towards Raglan, Kawhia, Pio Pio etc.
2. Somewhere in the heart of Tri-boy country, Wairamarama road I think.
3. A bit further south but before Raglan and inland from the coast road, it actually wasn't raining.
4. South of Kawhia and before Pio Pio, more dreary gravel, bush settings peace & quiet. It was tough this ride I tells you.
Crisis management
27th July 2009, 20:34
1. Getting close to Pio Pio, Waipuna road??? Anyway, nice country to travel through, the stock being well behaved this time and staying on their side of the fence.
2. The Ninja photog (Pooeys mate) at work, everytime you turn around he's there!
3. The start of the Waikaremoana road, fairly tight and variable surfaces (eh Rob?). The fast buggers have already left and the dust is clearing so us mere mortals can totter on.
4. A maori cow (standing around, doing bugger all).....and a rivery thing, presumably the Waikaremoana unless I'm lost 10 minutes into this ride..Cary, where are we???

1. Top of the Waikaremoana road, a light dusting of snow and a 990 in repose...I began plotting my cunning plan to hurl snowballs at passing motorcyclists....Epic fail when your the last motorcyclist....
2. Rosie....bloody passing me again (and the snowball missed too)
3. Being in the country I thought it neccessary to blend in with the locals so carried out some on the spot bike training..I can get it to play dead but it hasn't cottoned on to the "heel" command yet. Maybe those farm dogs are smarter than they look?
I would like to point out that in this case:
# I didn't fall in the water.
# I actually cleared the water hazard, the tyres didn't touch the bridge at all.
4. Proof that I am not alone in lying down KTMs (it's a clear design defect). In this case Al is trying to negotiate a loan to buy fuel from extortionate DR owners..I think he sold both testicles in this case.
Is that what we are, chook chasers then? Still, nice to see some positive feedback....

1. The start of the Motu...I did like this bit, and the other bits....
2. A bit further in, road, river and hills, what more is there in life?
3. Yet another bright idea.....lets go over there and look at the view, that puddle can't be too deep. Well it wasn't after I had finished moving 200 litres of mud and water.
Luckily the ford wasn't too far away and got me and the bike clean again.
I must confess to a minor oops a bit later on as well, I managed to highside the bike down a hill (I stayed on the road-ish), I have no idea how this occurred and I can only blame bovine tuberculosis or operator error....
Thanks to those that helped pick the fat pig up again and particularly Rex? who pointed out my tool bag was busy setting itself on fire on the exhaust a couple of clicks further on (I would have noticed eventually, give me a break ok?)
Luckily KTMs crash well and apart from a new collection of dirt in strange places all is well.
Thats it from me, thanks Clint & Rosie and all the other hangers on, good to meet you...when's the next one?

You reckon that's bad, that was taken a couple of minutes after I went through the "puddle", most of it had dissipated by then, for a while I was in my own little cloud of evaporating mud and slimy water.

Big thanks to Clint and Rosie for organising a wicked weekend. It was well worth the effort put in to get there. There's some amazing roads in that area and I was so busy riding & enjoying it I took half the number of photo's I normally would.
Here's MMMM through Eddie's eyes
1) Regroup after the forest roads just before heading into Waikaremoana
2) Somewhere in the Urewera's
3) Abandoned truck
4) And it's inside
5) Another pic of the locals
6) What can I say, simply stunning. It snowed lightly on us just after this was taken.

1) The road round the top of Waikaremoana
2) Lake Waikaremoana
3) And again cause it was so good
4) The sign at the beginning of the Motu Road, it looks promising
5) Views from the Motu
6) JunkManJoe doing the Motu

1) I think Mr JunkMan is enjoying himself
2) Aslan coming out of the Motu
3) Stunning roads round a lake near the end of the ride. I have no idea where we were.
4) And the lake itself

That just about answers most of my questions, having read the posts and seen the piccys. I spent my weekend wondering whether you lot had passed Go and how you were getting on in the frost and snow. It seems getting there was just about the hardest part, as indicated by the widespread mayhem arround Wellytoun Thursday night and unpromising forecast for Friday.
Clearly a very successful event Clint, congratulations from a fireside watcher. I hope to do better next time. An epic effort by Eddie, roaring off in the early hours of Saturday so as not to miss the fun, great stuff young fella ! And a sensible choice of horse by you Aslan, not your original pick as I recall. Sorry to read you were laid up Oscar, musta been a bad scene for a coupla days there.
Cheers to all involved.

Great weekend Clint, cheers.
Felt sorry for Rob getting stuck on the Motu until late Sunday evening waiting for a tow truck. All the signs pointed to a failure of the BSK unit on his GS, not common at all. This may well have had something to do with it.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Garry393/Rob.jpg
Believe it or not there’s a 1200GS in here, still upright I might add. Totally impressed he actually managed to hang on to it.
All the best, be back next year :Punk:

He must have hit that hole to the right of the track and just ploughed straight in...:shit: Nice shot, good definition of the bike and I can see the rider nice and clearly too.....

Big thanks to Clint, TEC (Rosie) & the guys I rode with.
I was lucky to be able to tag onto the MMMMM event while up north with work. And what a fantastic way to see new country & ride sweet gravel to places that I didn't know existed.
The cold wet trip from the ferry to the start at Taupo was a bit of a challenge, with leaking gloves & a wet arse. Plus I forgot to pump up the front tyre for seal and the knobs soon dissolved off, so was effectively running on the casing for the rest of the trip. Surprisingly no off's but did go "wide" on a couple of wet corners.
I would encourage all South Island adv riders to add the MMMMM to your calender - it's well worth the haul to get up there.

Good news everyone! Max will rise again. Thanks to Devil who kindly brought his Adv in so Sebastian could swap bits around, it has been determined that water splashed up to some chafed wiring, which in turn fried the ignition switch. No control units were harmed in the making of this war story.
Max should be back on the road in a couple of weeks, and the bill should be under $1k. (that may sound like a lot, but is much better than the worst case scenario). See you on the road soon!
