If there's a cost benefit without a loss of functionality I might consider it but otherwise... err... no.

No - If I ever get a mobile I want an iPhone. Not shown?

You could probably run an iphone on the new network - my understanding is that it's GSM and uses SIM cards....
However, Vodafone have the exclusive rights to the official iphone, and Telecom wouldn't support it.

That stunted brummie on telly says it is faster than ever. Does that mean you have to breathe helium and talk faster to get maximum benefit? I don't get it, surely conversation over this network will be the same?

Eh? faster? The CDMA technology was always faster than GSM. A while back they were marketing that as a benefit.. Now they swap to GSM and advertise its FASTER still?? I do not think so, but anyway they truth will be out soon and we will see. How often do we hear that type of BS from telecunt anyway? Uh yeah quite a bit.
The point is moot to me anyway, since I wouldn't fuck telecon if they were the last goat on the planet.

Telecom are in negotiations with Apple so expect it to be available soon. Vodafone don't have an exclusive agreement.
I'm with Vodafone and will wait for the price wars before making any decisions to move.

I think you are getting confused between GPRS and GSM....

I think you are getting confused between GPRS and GSM....Ok, what I mean to say, is the mobile internet product offered over the CDMA network was always going to faster and technically superiour to the internet product offered over the GSM network. But we shall see.

Shit I've got both networks' phones, and all I require is they take my texts to sender quickly, likewise when talking. If I want to take pics I'll use the camera, either digi or filim,if I want gps I'll use the navman, music have stereos.

then you will be surprised to know that they are using WCDMA over GSM

I'm saving $30-40 a month being with Telecom, and my phone is better than what I had on Vodafone.
I'm supposed to be getting a $300 credit to be used towards a new phone for the XT network so I'm looking forward to that :niceone:

Rubbish. No they're not.
Their new network is the same technology as Vodafone's network has been for several years now. It's not GSM. They were going to roll out a GSM network and a real 3G one. They're not now.. they've paid their contractors to remove the GSM/2G sites that they'd already paid them to install.
The new network is on 850Mhz and 2100Mhz (in the city, for obvious reasons), using Alcatel kit. Other operators in the world have ripped their Alcatel kit out and replaced it with Nokia..
Vodafone's is 900 and 2100, like most people networks in the world. It doesn't take a genius to work out which frequencies will have the best handset availability.
It'll be years before TNZ have improved their infrastructure enough to support the download speeds they're promising. I've seen nothing about HSUPA speeds.. speeds that are already available on Vodafone, on devices available now.
My phone (vodafone) is displaying "Insert SIM". Does it got to do with the XT network or is my phone just fucked?

Do you have proof of this? I have been told by telecom engineers that it is, also every article I have read states that they are using GSM...

Proof? Like what? Sworn statements from someone involved on the project?
Telecom aren't using their engineers, they're getting Alcatel to do it.

umm, no...was meaning some kind of legit online article that stated it was not using GSM.
Its just every article I've read (online, and not), including some of there engineers have stated differently.
I might be wrong, but I think I'll keep listening to my sources.
Thanks for the info anyway.

They aren't using analogue either.. but i can't find an article stating that.. or wet string and bean cans.
They were installing a GSM/2G and a 3G network. They realised that everyone else in the world has stopped 2G (some years ago) so they've ripped all the 2G sites out again.
GSM is 2G
WCDMA is 3G.

You are correct good sir.
Im upgrading my telecom phone when the new network is online. Now days i think telecom is the better provider what with not being charged to call the help desk n all. Vodafone also provide crap service calls dropping delayed messages ect i spoken to plenty of reps who dislike them for that very reason. Crossing fingers for better data plans on xt.

I'm saving about $300 a month diverting my calls to Vodafone. It's a shame I get no signal at my house though. Mind you, I drive 2 minutes from my house and I can only get Vodafone but no Telecom.
It's a real shame they couldn't work out a roaming agreement so that when your GSM handset is out of range of your main provider you can still make and receive calls with the other.
