Like the story. You should consider going along to SASS - free motorcycle skill lessons in your area. It'll build your confidence and allow you to enjoy riding even more. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/wiki/Sout..._Street_Skills
Sounds like you had a good ride and weekend.. I know how it can feel, as I did a ride to Edgecumbe on my Ninja 250, on my own, and loved it.. That was over a weekend also.
Sounds like you had a great ride. It's funny how much better you feel on the bike the day after, or even after a short stop when refueling. The old noggin' needs to be reset every now and then!
Wow sounds great I can't wait for my first real road trip- gotta watch those bloody trucks- I live in the Bay of Plenty there is a shit load of them around here but I ride most days so get used to them. I am hoping to do a weekend trip up the corremandel soon. Good reminder of "refreshment stops" sometimes I think you just wanna get past all those dam slow cars you forget to take a break. : )
That's a great account \ story! And I can say from my own experience, the more K's you get under your belt, the more confident you will become. Yes, 100% focus is a must - as you found out for yourself, which is a good way to learn those lessons. Also when I began riding (not that long ago) I became very tired on long trips, but this is no longer a problem. Not forgetting, the refreshment stop is invaluable especially in the colder weather!
It is so great to hear about women on bikes inspiring others....good for you! I just toured around NZ for a few months on a wee litttle GN 250cc and it was great because at the end of my trip I showed my cousin how to ride out in a parking lot, and she ended up buying my bike from me....and now we got another girl on the road....yahoo. Keep on cruising. cheers.
yes still on the gn125, hoping to upgrade in the very near future!
Good job! Was this still on the GN 125?
Sit on as many bikes as you can, I bought three bikes before I ended up on my 250 yamaha zeal, fantastic for the vertically challenged, and it did so much for my confidence. I am now on to my next adventure! Good luck : )
Hey thanx everyone for your help... im going for my restricted in a couple of weeks & then will start shopping for a new bike!
yup, I can underline that. Got me a Honda CBF250 as well and it's great fun to ride. Great practice/learner bike as it's agile, pretty quick and nice for commute.
Hi there Mrs Warrior.....Mrs Dodgy started on an FZR250 and hated it...I on the other hand loved it but that's another story. We shopped around and eventually settled on a Honda CB250. A fantastic little bike and great for those of short stature. She found it very easy to handle come test time....the guys on the sports bikes were struggling. Great on a long trip too...we did over 500 k's in one day trip once and she was ready for another 500 Also check if your local riding school is still running a course that gets you your full license 6 weeks thats right it's not a typo. Mrs Dodgy went from nothing to full license in 6 weeks in a riding school here in Hamiltron and I'm so glad she did. She is a confident safe rider and the only bad thing is she now won't ride pillion with me.Just my opinion for what it's worth. Good luck finding your ideal bike...Welcome to this madhouse that is KB and ride safe
How much do you want to spend? I'm selling my Hornet 250 at the moment and it's a nice step up from a 125. Even if you don't go for mine, they're a bike well worth looking at as they're not a full on sports machine that is uncomfortable to ride for learners but can go just as hard when you want them to. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...t-250-interest
try the kawasaki ninja 250 great as a first bike- still a little slow. Its what im riding it looks great rides well an being only 250 your still OK on your learners
We recently stayed here http://www.holidayhouses.co.nz/properties/9998.asp Was a great place to stay and very quiet and secure. We used it as a base to explore the peninsula on our adv bikes. Very reasonable rates and the hosts gave us free snapper to cook up at night and some smoked fish.
Hey thanx for that, will definetly have a look at that website!
Coromandel Town has some wonderful accomodation from cabins on a camping ground just north of the town centre through to Anchor Lodge just south of the centre. There are also some lovely private cabins just north of the centre (Celadon). Have a look at this for starters: http://www.coromandeltown.co.nz/ but if you want more info on what to see and do round the Peninsula, just PM me. Nothing like local knowledge! Cheers, Geoff
while it is summer maybe go for a cruise once the kids are in bed and it is still light....
