  1. Training Ride 2: Helping a KB'er

Another weekend, another ride. Thinking of a route during the week, I didn't know what to choose. Reading the wandering comrades threads about his new bike, I thought doing some of that might appeal, but couldn't be bothered going to Wellington. I did think him suffering through snow, hail, rain etc was typical of him, but then, the weather wasn't that surprising.

Reading MSTRS thread late on Friday night gave me the hatchings of a better plan, and an excuse to pop over the Napier ...
  2. Training Ride 1: Getting back into things

I've been telling myself I need to get back into riding. As usual with winter, the weather is crappy so not exactly appealing, and there's always some sort of work to do, so you let the riding slide. Problem is, I enjoy the long rides (600-800km, or more), so there is an element of riding fitness. Stop that sort of riding, and your fitness drops away. I don't drive, but around town riding for work or odd tasks doesn't compensate.

The weekend of 22 August rolls around, and I start ...
  3. Raaaagggge!!

Well normally I get on pretty well with other motorists. Actually pausing for a second I do actually have a very low threshold for fuckwits and idiots...so that might explain my reactions.

I was trundling along heading out to Wellingtown aeroport this morning and was heading along Aotea Quay, through the lights, down by BP and Te Papa with a car in front of me and cars behind, left and right of me.

Now we all know how when the adrenalin kicks in time slows down and ...

  4. Progress Update

Time for an update me thinks...

Yes, the project is still going.
The engine is rebuilt and fully mounted.
Chambers are connected just require the rear hangers to be completed.
    Carbs are ready.
    Reeds are coming.
    Fuel tap has been located.
Sprockets are ordered and ready to pick up.
Some bodywork has been found - missing a small piece from the tail fairing and a top fairing.

    That's the good news.

    Now the ...

  6. Nelson to Picton to Kaikoura to St Arnoud to Kawatiri and back to Nelson.

Nelson to Picton to Kaikoura to St Arnoud to Kawatiri and back to Nelson.

I rode through to Kaikoura on Saturday (can recommend Lyell Creek Lodge backpackers) and so on Sunday morning rode back to Renwick up the Wairau River and up to Kawatiri. Met some others and went to St Arnoud for a coffee and cake.
Jeff and Paul being keen adventure riders admonished me for being so scared of dirt and tried to tell me I would be a better rider if I got a dirt bike! Huh!

  7. Undertaking = temporary kiwi for sure

Had a wonderful day out riding on Saturday - lots of bikes out stretching their legs (good to see) just a heads up to the idiot on the old Indian on gebbies pass saturday 28th - "undertaking" is called that for a reason ..... is a sure fire guaranteed way to ensure you meet an "undertaker" in his/her official capacity sooner than you probably need too..... And continuing to undertake other motorcyclists at intersections is yet again increasing your odds..... Pity really - the ...
