Words can't really describe it...the pictures and videos kind of can...but you really had to be there. Awesome weekend with good company. Pushing bikes and people to the limit...well in a low key, adventure bike kinda way. But fair to say it tested some of us, myself included, both in riding skills, stamina and decision making. Videos to follow.

Well normally I get on pretty well with other motorists. Actually pausing for a second I do actually have a very low threshold for fuckwits and idiots...so that might explain my reactions.

I was trundling along heading out to Wellingtown aeroport this morning and was heading along Aotea Quay, through the lights, down by BP and Te Papa with a car in front of me and cars behind, left and right of me.

Now we all know how when the adrenalin kicks in time slows down and a million thoughts go through your head...well this was one of those ones.

This fucken plonker pulls out of Tory street on the right hand side of the road and cut out in front of all the traffic. For the first few split seconds as I'm pulling in the reins I think "you f(*^( dumb cu&* etc etc" as I figure he was just pulling into the flow, but then I realise he's cutting right across the road...in front of three lanes of traffic...three fucking lanes! And then the c*nt pulls into the Te Papa carpark!

Well this is where I lost all self control and I can only place it as a genuine Amygdala Hijack (look it up). I kicked the Africa in the ribs and popped the front shocks back to full extension, changed lanes and pulled in after him. This is all in only a few seconds. Then as I'm pulling up behind him ready to tear him a new one I realise I'm in uniform with only my riding jacket, so DPM pants, black boots...not the right outfit to be making a public scene in...so slowed up and wheeled back around to rejoin the traffic.

No doubt happens to dudes all the time, but I've had cars push me out of my lane before and I've been chilled as about it, but for some reason this one just flipped me. Go figure.

Happy Riding...

Bit of an anti climax though as the battery was pretty tuckered before I parked it up for two months, so was totally tuckered when I went to start it...boys thought it was pretty to jump start off the Surf though.

So here's a couple of pics from my ride up Altimarlock (Awatere Valley, Marlborough) two hour return trip from my garage. I set my new helmet camera up and got it on video too but I have to edit it down from 8 gig... I'll post it up sometime...soonish. Snow is always good fun. Riding solo also adds to the decision-making cycle and challenge of it all.

Good to be home and good to be riding again!

Cheers, Buggs

Been stuck in Oz for the last 6 weeks in Puckapunyal, about an hour and a half north of Melbourne. Army course. I won't bore you with all the details but suffice to say I'm hanging out to get home to the wife and kids and bike 7 days from now.

A bit shitty cos I missed early autumn and the last few weeks of riding before the rains hit. Trying to get over myself a bit and harden the f*ck up for when I get back and need to commute in the wellington rain every Monday and Fri to the airport to get back to Blenheim. Hopefully won't be too long before wife resigns and comes over with the kids, but not expecting that to happen till maybe Oct, possibly December.

Got a small amount of maint to do on the bike when I get back which the boys will no doubt be keen to help with - just gotta tweak the exhaust valve on the rear pot, put a final coat on the engine bars and put on a couple of new chain guides. Dang old bikes and their expensive parts from europe...But hey, an Africa Twin is worth it right?

Pining to get out on a 2-3 day tour but might have to get on to the heated grips issue sooner rather than later... Maybe a ride up to Katikati is on order to see the olds...and the grand-olds...

Well, the mood is pretty sombre here in no-mans-land so There it is. First post, more to follow once my blood starts flowing again in the land of the long grey cloud with a 750 V twin growling along in the gravel...

Cheers, Buggs
