Anyone going along to this? Thanks for the heads up about the TV3 news item psyguy Deus is a pretty cool shop, I went there when they were first opening up and would like to check it out now it's finished. I think by now they will have cleaned my off the Guzzi cafe racer Here is the Webbs catalogue, not my cup of tea in the main, and the estimates are scary, I am guessing that any bids around those figures will come in via telebid as our $ will seem cheap in USD or Euros. Deus is here: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&s...0.022724&z=16t Webbs catalogue: http://www.webbs.co.nz/auction/impor...ge-motorcycles Anyone keen to scratch their nose and end up owning a Triumph with a gas headlamp for $75,000?
I'm sure Max had a little chuckle at the reserve on this: http://www.webbs.co.nz/auction-item/1973-bmw-r90s I know I did "the pilot was able to maintain a high speed (+200kph) for longer than any other Japanese four cylinder pilot of the day" only because it was a twin cyl with a 23 liter petrol tank and we know how old Jap multi's love to guzzle the juice at flat knackers!
I'm planning to be there. I'm keen to see if the R90S sells. It was restored in Sydney in a no-expense-spared nut&bolt rebuild using entirely NOS parts about 11 years ago, and was subsequently purchased by Ian Falloon. It is effectively a brand new bike that has been started but never ridden since completion, and has been featured in a few books Falloon has since written. A well-known collector based in Auckland has owned it for several years, but I understood it had sold earlier this year at the last Webbs motorcycle auction. Utterly pointless to own, other than for bragging rights . . . riding it would probably see all the dried-out seals leak like a Guzzi, and would also see its value drop faster than Hanover Finance shares . . .
Agree, you would have to pull it apart again and replace all the seals. It was the auction blather that I enjoyed. I don't know what it will be bid up to but interested to find out. Should put a for sale sign on Gina in the carpark if there is going to be silly money there, heck, I will even throw in my Exxon/Mobil discount card for the right person.
Got dragged down there and shouted lunch today What a cool place, my 'boss' as usual knew someone and got the tour of the " no entry ' bits. Going back next week to test ride a bobber with him...have to dust off the Mike Hailwood pudding bowl and goggles. There was a room full of jap import Kawasaki 650 twins that Deus use to make bobbers, cafes, whatever you want to pay for. Owners own shitters were there too....a Guzzi 850, an R90s and a Darmah....weird. The Auction bikes were cool, a bit sad to think they are probably going overseas and not used. I liked the flat tankers, max has the hat for one of these..... Oh and summit for you japper boys... Suzuki's high water mark the RE5. Lots of Triumphs...I liked the pre unit Trophy.....made me want to jump the wire. I'd be keen to go along.....sell some FUKACC stickets ( if its allowed).
I like the look of the Mk1 Ariel Sq 4 myself. I believe it sees some action occasionally, not like most "concourse posers". Sort of thing you could enjoy riding to and even be accepted at a "licorice tea party". Not keen on spending the dollars to realise this dream though!.

Edward Turner would turn in his oily grave if he saw bikers drinking moccacinos with little marshmallows.....
Back when I was in the bay I got offered a square 4 for $1000, at the time I had no idea what it was and turned it down The guy thought I might like the engine for my speedway bike. I know where there is a less than mint X75 that may be coming up for sale soon.....

Oh nooooo.....don't let this one slip past.....there was one of those on display, great eye candy whilst sipping my flat white....
There are 3 pretty nice Tridents for sale right now, I like the yella one. The X75 would have to be twice the price of them, all that you get is a heavy lump of fibreglass and brief touring range for your money. No thanks, a Hyde kitted stocker will do me nicely. Disc front and long range tank please

I'd take either one of the Goldstars...maybe even both. And to think I declined a Goldstar scrambler in Weston-Webb's for $650 because I thought it was too expensive, and got my Triton for the same price instead. But who wants to join the Goldstar Club these days - I'd have to commission a special set of leathers and get a Commodore HSV as a tow car. No fancy blurb on the speedway bike - obviously the purple prose writer knows fuck all about speedway. So I am wondering why they expect 20 grand for just a common garden 4 valve Jawa? Must have belonged to someone special.I turned down Ole Olsen's Westlake for $3,000....like,Some Things Are Scary. (Florence Perry Heide)
I don't know much about pommy bikes to be honest... The X75 that my mate has is the only pom bomb that I have ridden, so my frame of reference is very limited. Honestly if I was buying a '70s bike I would rather get a 900SS Darma.....
Dharma.....
X75's? Back in the day,the brand new Hurricane sat at Shafts for a long time - $2,500 was some serious bloody money for a motorcycle. Finally the panelbeating apprentice next to work bought it...although we both might have been out of our time by then. His girlfriend lived in Taranaki and he used to go down every weekend,at 30mpg Tridents just suck the fuel, and he didn't have the reserves of fuel with that small tank.So he made a small aux tank to go on the back, painted the same colour, stripes and all,it looked pretty good.Once he dropped it in the Awakino Gorge, and the triple mufflers were well rooted - but he had some good metal skills and got them looking like new.
