HELP! The clown that powder coated my Katana bits has rendered the front disc useless. We managed to salvage the rear disc on a lathe but the front disc would not spin up true on the lathe being thiner and worn unevenly. I can source aftermarket new discs for $225 each. I would prefer to find something less expensive. Does anyone have or know where there is a pair of discs for sale?
The aftermarket disc price is bloody awesome..... you go and price up the front discs for your mk2 and uncle Dodgy will lend you a tissue ... $400 + freight last time I checked.... Better plan is to go see that bloke down the road from you, take the whole wire wheel wit the discs attached...
I have a couple of spare sets that I was going to sort through and rid my GS of it's slight pusing effect (slight warping of one of the discs on the bike) Wasn't planning on doing it real soon but if you get seriously stuck I'm pretty sure we can salvage a useable pair.
i think powdercoating can be stripped back so i'd go down that line first. other than that GSR forum is your best friend. not sure what croc paid for his discs all up but definitely much less than $450 for a pair of new ones. often the bikes parted out from the USA have a low milage so that's a bonus. good luck.
ps. while most post 1980 gs/gsx rotors LOOK the same there IS a slight variation in sizes (diameters) so make sure you get the right ones. you can compare the part numbers on www.babbitsonline.com
I got a pair (seperate auctions from same seller) on Ebay for U$1 and U$13 (from memory). Cost $100 NZ incl shipping from the states.
http://www.metalgear.com.au/mgmodel.asp This site is really handy for finding out whatn fits what. Go to the model and then to the rotor number and it brings up all the dimensions and off set , thickness , hole sizes ect. Wickle is mr suzuki , he mite have some thing I will have a wee look in my stocks as well. I have some Suzuki? rotors biut i think they are 5 stud. What diameter are yours ? and any other sizes you can measure
You can bead blast powder coating off, It takes a while tho ( wouldnt want to pay labour for doing it, rather have new rotors). I can use the bead blaster at the engine shop were i used to work on saturdays. Do you know any one thats got one you can use?
now i remember, lol... i had an MC powdercoated and wasnt happy with it so i had the same powdercoating guy strip it and i think they do it chemically, so why not go back to your powdercoater an let him do it again?

according to that metalgear site practically all gs/gsx models are listed as having the same front discs??
wheras this site http://www.gs-classic.de which is very comprehensive (ze germans, you know) lists a range of diameters from 270 to 297mm
I got lost in the german site, looks good but my german stops at hogans Heros lol That metalgear site didnt used to do that model fittment thing and give you a list of all that fit, before you had to go thru model by model. it dosnt work on yamaha models that have the same rotor. I have found a few things that dont quite seem right . The rotors i have got are 5 stud , 300mm (measured with digital verniers from the centre with no battery) I am sure they were suzuki and had found the list and dimensions on metalgear. Was planing on modifing them for my race bike but ended up in the "to hard bin"

Edit , all the sizes are tha same but there not floating rotors. They have 7 solid rivots to hold the rotor onto the centre hub, Not sure what there off
Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated. Sadly we have put groves in the front disc with the Lathe so not worth salvaging. I found out today acid stripping would have been $40 a disc. I have had two offers to loan me a set until i find/purchase some more. There's no hurry at present because I have got a long list of jobs/projects around the house and on the boat while its dryish including going sailing when ever we can. Katana assembly has been put on hold until daylight saving is over. Sorry Croc you will have to wait just a little bit longer. Cheers, Capn Seedy.
