A friend of mine intends selling his T160 shortly. It's in very good original/well maintained condition with approx 31,000mi on the clock from memory. No oil leaks, runs very well. He described it to me as "ready to do the South Island". I looked at it tonight and am inclined to believe him. He's selling it because he's just about finished the ground-up restoration of an identical T160, and has decided that he doesn't need two of them. He's looking for $12k. If anyone is interested, PM me for the owner's contact details.
I know that this makes me seem insane, but I like the Trident. What year is it? However, SWMBO may dismember me if I even suggest spending that type of coin on a Triumph. Nice bikes though and I hope it goes to a good home.
Mmmmmmmmm ..............Trident................. I still miss my T150, Not many good original ones left now, Not sure about the slope forward look of the T160 engine, the T150s look more british. Be worth that money for a Good one, A Z900 and a Trident are 4 strokes I could quite easily own
Had a look at 3 Tridents in the last 6 months. 2 of the 3 are still for sale around 8-10K and are really tidy so he may need to meet the market somewhat.
Just sold my one, original but ok, but new painted tank, carbs etc. Got 8 for it, about what I traded it for on my Speed Triple. I thru in the oil leaks and other issues for free. Seems to be always a lot of Bonnies on TM for sale.
The bike is a '75 model IIRC. The T160 models were produced for only one year. When my mate bought this one, it was already one of the tidiest available, and he has spent time & money to make it immaculate cosmetically and dependable mechanically. Predictably it owes him quite a bit more than the asking price, but he is realistic & negotiable. He's not selling because he needs the $$$, there's a T150, Commando and an X75 Hurricane parked next to the freshly restored T160, and I somehow get the feeling he wouldn't be too upset if it didn't sell . . . .
been reading ( its what you do when you have no internet...) about these since aquiring the Daytona 500.... the one year t160 was despite all Triumphs problems with unions and the Japs possibly their finest hour.
Triumph had one good hour?........they had a few....but then the good old English "glass half empty/the world is flat/we've always done it that way".......character flaws stuffed it up completely..........I have never known a race of people who can think of so many reason why something won't work rather then why it will............
Just been reading Kiwi Rider and see a fully restored T160 advertised for $18k (cost) in BOP. Makes $12k look pretty good. Yes it was arguably among the finest hours of pommy motorcycling history. If it wasn't for their shitty unions and idiot workers, they would likely have had the finances needed to adapt and match the leap forward in build quality and extra features that the Japanese offered.
finest hour......swansong would probably be the correct term.
