looking into the future for bftp social pages, i was thinking that in view of keeping the forums as friendly and as civil as possible (as they can become a tool for personal disputes sometimes and people can use them to toss each other arround and this can negatively affect everyone - this has been mentioned a few times as a reson for people not bothering to check KB main forums) ... it may be a good idea to make a suggestion for new members to attend at least one ride (in a given period) so to get to know other members in person. this might be a way to promote social side of things and minimise alientation that sometimes happens on forums. obviously, for members who may live in remote areas this would be different to those living in main centers. the idea is not trying to force anyone into riding but emphasising the social side of the bftp group promoting friendships. i would appreciate your thoughts on this and any other suggestions on the subject cheers psy
Participation in any form is good.
not sure what you mean dodgy?
Yeah at least 1 ride day attendance per year (even by cage just to the meeting point to say hi, if necessary) should be mandatory to retain membership. Cept as you say, members too far away to attend. If people have a genuine issue with an existing member... a pm or two to yourself to voice concerns should be evaluated as a basis to make an evaluation of posting style (see if they are antagonistic.. which I have yet to see evidence of here) and consider number of other concerned posters before a friendly query/handsmack warning followed by the chop if necessary. Though to be honest I think that consideration of the above actions is mostly unnecessary and simply over complicates our nice relaxed social atmosphere. Unless you know something which isn't immediately obvious.......... Did my name come up????
psyguy - Today 11:42 not sure what you mean dodgy? I think he simply means what he says. Include online contributions as a suitable qualification of continued membership. Those that don't post here should be considered as first at risk
How about sending everyone a pm giving them 1 month to respond (for the infrequent interwobble riders) with proper contact details. At least 1 personal phone number (not work), email addy and emergency contact name & phone number, also region confirmation for the twats that can't even bring themselves to put that little bit of info in their profiles. Terminate their membership if they don't respond satisfactorily.
lol, not having anyone specific in mind, didnt realize i had to spell it out. you've all been nice folks. but not sure about myself. i am just thinking of the future, knowing what sometimes happens on OTHER forums and wanting to air that before we possibly get into that situation. part of my job with clients is to look at ways of actively promoting positive attitudes so to prevent negative ones from developing rather than having to address them AFTER they have occured. i guess that's where i'm coming from. naturally, everone thinks they're nice people but the history of many forums proves otherwise, dont they?
Dieseldick - Today 12:03 I am particularly impressed that the forum has not degenerated to the level that some of the main site ones have. And as Dooly has mentioned about the HB forum, I haven't bothered to post on it for the very same reasons he has mentioned. these are some of the most recent comments i've heard that i had in mind when posting this thread.
Riiiiiiight! What do you want to do.. make it mandatory that all posts are started with a message of love... perhaps something along the lines of.... "Fuck you all"... blah, blah...
We have an excellent caliber of contributing members and have gotten here (a great friendly chat group) through natural evolution (as it were) stimulated by the qualities inherent in the members. I reckon if it ain't broken.. don't fix it. I have to do some work now
i think the difference is the ranters and ravers that get abusive mainly do so in the general threads...our threads are usually about bikes or rides or other constructive things...not really their cup of tea....
Love and light to all cmoore - Today 12:42 i think the difference is the ranters and ravers that get abusive mainly do so in the general threads...our threads are usually about bikes or rides or other constructive things...not really their cup of tea.... Nail on the head. Oops.. Back to work
I feel the love!!! In fact I'm going to the pub to celebrate it - anyone else coming????
I guess it is possible we could have a thread for jokes, porn, guns.....but that stuff is all available in the main threads.....where the winders and hecklers roam........
which pub??
