Now dodgyiti...normally I agree with you when you talk about Italian styling....but i was in the penrose bike shop yesterday and saw one of these...now try and explain what happened to this one....
Volty is the Ducati nut, I do like this one from the classic range and very nearly bought one last year as a USA grey import at $17,600 with 1,300kms as opposed to the new price of... wait for it... $26,500 Test rode the plain 1000GT last year at Haldanes and found it too tall geared, and as you say cmoore, fugly.
The red ones better than the grey one. Thats about it.
Dont know would get more questions about the grey one... "where doyouget allthe bits from and how did you get them to go together
I'd be up for the 1000s now that it has pipes and shocks on both sides....but the 1000gt don't do it for me.... saying that both of them would probably clean up any of the other retro bikes....but they are pricey. To my eyes retro bikes look odd, the best effort so far is the Triumph for looks, but for riding....boring. .....ah well...just have to keep riding the Darmah...
I'm with you Volty, they do look odd. Even a retro Guzzi harking back to my favorite model (750 Sport) looks 'ok' in the pictures, but in the flesh it is a tacky plastic wannabe. I saw a black one today at Mt Eden when I was checking out the grey/black and gold Katana they are advertising on TM. That looked better in the photos too....
Can you delete the 1000s picture above as its giving me the " I wants"....Hey SeeMoore....did " that bike shop in Penrose" have any of these?
i will check for you...they seem to have a lot of Ducati's........last time i went they had Harleys.....
You are talking Haldanes...? I pass it most days, I even bought my SS there...even tried to buld up a raport...but they failed....sold me a bike that was 2 years older than claimed on the rego, ( they did offer to refund my money so can't moan about that) bike was not serviced as claimed ...unless sparkplugs go rusty in 3 months, oil goes black and cam belts develop cracks and slop of 7mm. Then they did not have the tyre I wanted and fitted the rim with the next size up and low and behold it didn't fit......and it was $ 50 dearer than cycle treads. Plus the parts guy thinks hes really something special..... Cycle treads on the other hand...ride in .....tyres fittted...ride out....less than Haldanes. I wouldn't even concider buying a 4 valve water cooled bike off them if they had to service it....air cooled two valvers for me...4eva. rant over.
gee thats a shame. Haldanes used to be great. When I was in AK inthe 80's...er...yes.
Yeah Volty, air cooled 2vs are the best Ducs ever! Sound way better than 4vs too IMO
Richard the salesman is still there Ratti, he was there mid '80's I think. Haldane's had a 1000S last time I was there 2 months ago but they sell pretty smartly. I went to KTL Motorcycles and chatted to the good grey importers there and they found a low km 1 year old one for me in 2 working days, had I wanted it, it would be in the country, certed and in my grasp for 17K.... in 2 weeks... so tempting... but no, got a turn-key bike now and the 1000S looked like luggage was going to be an issue.
All Guzzi predjduce aside, this is the best retro bike I've seen so far. I like it because it looks cool, has spoked wheels, triple discs, and is built to last. And the real incentive is that Guzzi never 'watered down' the power. It has the big valve 40mm carbed 1000cc LeMans engine. Weighing in at 7kg lighter than the Mk5 LeMans it should in theory have as good, if not better punch. It's a 240km/h + bike They are now selling above their original sticker price in only 20 years, if you can get one. the indicators/seat/mufflers are not standard on this one, but I like the look
Hmmm, that's not bad. I like THIS one better though . . . .
some stunning bike pictures. i suspect the Ducati 1000s riding position is even more extreme than the SS. I read a road test today and it said summit like. The Ducati 1000s is pretty expensive for a young guy, but it will appeal to the older more well heeled guy reliving his youff...however its more suitable for younger guys... bit like the old bloke in the ferrari or porsche....
