so i pulled all sorts of things apart today, to get at the cover to adjust the rockers, so.. while im in this particular area. is there things i should also be doing/ looking for/ cleaning. so far on the list is new plugs n leads, air filter is right next door, so that too. Do i need to pull carbs apart? think it going to be a long term project, so wont be riding anymore till its done. Plan on doing the whole bike. seems like a silly thing to do really,, haha
Put it back together, ride it while the weather's good. Pull it apart over winter.
put it back together... now how do i do that?? hahaha
Lefty loosey , Righty tighty James ;-) Give it the tune and general check over while you have the covers off and ride it till the weather packs it in (after the HB rally) Its really easy to pull a bike completely apart and end up with a huge project.
Its really easy to pull a bike completely apart and end up with a huge project. or two or three
got the lefty loosey thing sorted... the parts came off quite easy
Check wiring harness connectors for crud, pull apart connectors and clean contacts- CRC contact cleaner. Oh hang on, it's not Italian is it? You will be fine then.
connectors do need alot of work. pulled a carb cover off.. looks clean in there... havnt managed to get top cover of motor off.. need allen keys. cant take carbs off without taking enine out of frame..... theres no room. wiring is in real bad shape. probably cheaper to buy a new bike than repair all of this one.. hahaha
wiring is in real bad shape. Arron's best for that deptment, have you amanual on the bike .. a good investment
rgr.. downloaded one. yes aaron is good at that stuff. big job though.
wiring is in real bad shape. probably cheaper to buy a new bike than repair all of this one.. hahaha Junk all that light wiring stuff, dead weight on a pre 89 post classic race bike James
the 100kg rider will weigh it down a bit to... and it couldnt keep up with a vfr400 or the straight to puketap last night either... so no condition to race
go to the library...look for "how to restore your motorcycle"...by Mark Zimmerman and Jeff Hackett.....excellent book......with lots of good tips.......I had had it out 4 times already.......
I've read that one too, it's good for a starting reference. The internet is probably one of the best things for specifics though. That GS forum and other brand specific ones are great, even if you don't have the same bike it is interesting the modifications you can carry through to your own machine. It can also make you aware of the 'paint by numbers' mods and 'custom tricks' so you can avoid them and create something a little different, something you can call James Smith's bike Regards, Dodgy Customs
looks like a trip to the library on saturday then. deisel and i pulled carbs out last night. prick of a job with the big air box. So need to strip n clean them. Need to replace throttle cable. We talked about chaning to pods, but i think ill leave it mostly original parts.... why mess with perfection right??
