How does 6000 for an 87 K1 sound? it has top box, panniers and fairing. is in fairly good nick cosmetically.
WOuldnt win any ratbike awards like the 87 K1 I had back in 88/89,but I can probably fix that.

    Can't recall the mileage

Its a german version of the Mighty Kawasaki.

I owned one for a while after the zed got stolen so I sort of think it might be fun to get another one... Mind you if I follow that line of thought I ought to be looking out for a CB400NC as well, and a couple of scooters and some variations on C90's and...you know how it is.

I was thinking I'd like a newer bike I can do more miles on. Newer is a relative term in this group, you guys know what I mean tho.

ps. I only went into the shop to buy some new corduras for the winter. The waterproofing has come adrift and duct taping the crutch has left them really uncomfortable. I have found a limit to the practical application of duct tape!

I have always liked the K1. Maybe not so much the yellow bits on them though.
I believe they will eventually become collectable, but right now they are at bottom dollar. The complex electrics are fortunately good: otherwise I would never consider one. I had an 1987 K100RS for 120,000kms and found it faultless but boring, the K1 would be a bit more interesting but dangerous to the licence. They emit a sort of sewing machine whine at any speed so you should like it Ratti.
Last year my mate was selling his blue one for 6,500 and I considered buying it and matte blacking it but Max woulda beat me up. Bad enough what I did (and continue to do)to the R100Rt I ended up getting

The CB will be cheaper to keep in rego

I don't think Max recognizes 4 cylinder bikes, My only ride on a K100 was for a day in Chaing Mai about a decade ago...did 400 kms thru the mountains....sadly the VFR 750 was hired out.....it would have been more fun. $50.00 and gas well spent I thought.
If it was made by Moto Guzzi Dodgie would have a shed full of them....

Too many cylinders, too many valves. Far too much electronics.

Articles have been appearing for years telling us that the K1 is a future classic. I'm still not seeing it yet. A mate of mine in the UK has an obsession for K1's and recently repowered his with a K1200 engine so that he can keep up with modern bikes. I know others who are equally obsessed with them but their collectibility is still unclear. You'd need a better reason to want one.

Ratti unless you're particularly drawn to the K1 for its styling, for less money I'd consider the K1's poor cousin the K75S. Arguably the sweetest and best balanced of the entire "K" range.

Also the luggage issue, I forgot about that. A regular K bike with panniers carrys a lot of stuff, a K1 with it's tiny intergrated boxs carrys FA and it's hard to add more gear carrying capacity because of the way the rear is designed, throw overs don't sit right on the back.

The speedo blows if you do over 240 and requires replacement, I blew 2 under warranty before they told me to F off, $1700 a throw back in 1988

over 240? er...I doubt that will be a problem. I scared the crap outta myself once wheni realised I was doing 180ks and still had a couple of gears to go and the end of the motorway in sight. Slow and boring sounds about my speed. bugger, Im going to have to go back next week and take it for a run...heeeeeeeeey...Dadpole, Wickle and I are planning a ride on Tuesday...hmmmmm, whatya rekon? think the shop'd let me have it for a day? I feel a cunning plan taking shape

way to go Dadpole! nah only the one. It had been bought by an older couple getting back into riding and they had just traded it on a brand new beemer. so its sitting there all forlorn begging for someone to take it home and love it....

I quite like the K1, but I don't know if I could live with one. The plastic must be impossible to replace but that motor should go forever. A twin would be the one for me I think. Now a R100RS would suit me down to the ground.
