Hi, just joined this group - seems pretty quiet but I'd thought I'd give starting up a meet a go. Saturday 27th March weather is suppoed to be good (sunday not so good) so if anyone fancy a run over top the wairappas then gives me a shout. I've only been up there a few times but each time was enjoyable - would like to go there a bit more often. So any takes just respond to this thread. I can make most times (not early though). Earmark starting of from avalon duckpond around 11am? Then can have lunch over the hill. Come one people - it'll be a good ride!
Pretty sure the meeting place for this run is the carpark at the bootom of Haywards Hill. Can not make it this Saturday (tyre replcement Monday), but keen next time.
Happy to meet at carpark, couple of directions to which carpark though as not had a meet there before. Only used to the tuesday night rides meeting point of avalon park. Shame you can't make it - maybe next time.
We used to meet at the carpark at the bottom of the Haywards Hill. That doesn't mean we always have to meet there. Kudos to you for stepping up and organising a ride, as the organiser you can make the meeting point anywhere you like. If people want to ride they will meet you there. Don't be put off if people don't reply to say they will be there. Quite often you'll end up with more people than just those who reply. Me? I'll just see what tomorrow brings. For me going on rides is usually a last minute decision. Might see you there.
Ta Cloggy. OK meeting point will be Avalon car park at 11am. I'lll wait until 11:15am until starting off. If anyone turns up I'll go over the takas with them. Cheers Ben
So did anyone go on a ride today?
Yup, a total of one person turned up - ukiwi, but only because I had PM'd him the day before about it. You could add a third if you count the lost old fella in the even older car who was asking for directions to the ferry (from the duckpond - now that is seriously lost). But, despite the low turnout, it was a great day of riding. Went over the takas, through featherstone stopped for lunch in martinborough. Then onto masterton and a quick looksie in the bike shop there (Honda one) and back to featherstone. Stopped for a quick drink in featherstone, during which I got a phonecall saying the missus had taken a tumble and was at A&E. Turned out she had broken a bone in her thumb/ palm, bit of a relief as it could have been a lot worse, it was a serious tumble. So, back over the takas we went, beeped goodbye to Dave with my new air-horn (just had to use it), then carried on for a great ride over haywards and the bay and onto poirrua. Very long day but great riding. Was amazed at the sheer amount of flies in the wairapa. We were caked in fly guts after only five minutes, my jacket looks like a piece of modern art. Cheers Ben
