    I have powdercoated frames in the past, but when I do my next couple of rebuilds I wont.
    reasons: it chips, hard to touch up, and nuts and bolts are hard to tighten as the surface is two thick/soft.
    seems to last well thought....good on council furniture.
    I was recently quoted 300 to two pack one.
    R90s used Hammerite if I recall correctly and it seems to be doing the job.
    just my 2 cents worth....

    Yeah, I have had good results with spraying Hammerite and then 2-pot clear over the top.

    That would be my recommendation these days too. Powder coating great on something that is not an active frame and doesn't have a multitude of things being attached and deattached from it every so often. Hammerite and two pot will work and work well.

    Thanks everyone, it was for a customers rebuild, so will pass on these comments and see what he wants to do.

    Just to clarify, Finnigans the company that makes Hammerite do a sister product called Smoothrite which is what I used for the frame, swingarm, battery box etc on my bike. Smoothrite is available in matte, satin and gloss, and in aerosols or tins.

    Steady on James.. it's a mission, bad for you, and messy. If you really feel keen- I have used 40 grit to break the surface, then paint stripper, to finish I use those corse drill mounted stripping wheels. It is hard and sometimes labourious to get into all the nooks and crannies too. Depending on the frame.
    These days I pay a plastic media blaster guy $100 and save the mess and bother. By the time you buy sandpaper, paint stripper and stripping wheels, dust mask and chemical gloves your in it for $50 already.

    Once you have had a stripping wheel place still active paint stripper inside your ear, you tend to evaluate costs Vs hassle

    James, Procoat do a powdercoat that looks just like polished ali. Last set of mags they did for me cost $220 which included stripping and a powdercoat clear over the top.
    Since you have not seen Gina, here is what the coating looks like;

    Ya never have to polish them again, all you do is wash them with a sponge, now that's labour saving...

    Have found awesome powder coater in Upper Hutt,
    POWDER SURFACES - 04 5269369

    Just had customers frame done, frame and battery box $60. Still got yokes and swinging arm to do so should come in under $100. Job is superb, high gloss black
    Putting motor back in will be fun - about 1/2 inch clearance all way round and I think they built the frame round the battery box
