OK I'm not going to throw me toys outa the cot. JUST YET. I've lately received a number of membership requests to join us BFTP'ers. I'm awaiting replies from two people now , both of whom I've had to ask " do you have a pre 1990 motorcycle" one that is preferably road legal and operational that could possibly be riddden on a BFTP Ride. I'm not a vastly experienced orator, but when, as I have had, I receive a reply in the negative I've simply told the person making application that this is pretty much our only rule and as such they can't be accepted. I get the impression that some of the most recent applicants in fact know members of ours and they seem to expect that, that, all by itself will secure them entry to our little band. While exclusivitity is not my intention, BLAST FROM THE PAST Riders do all have at least one road legal pre 1990 bike and sometimes they even ride them, with other old bike owners. I'm just a little annoyed I guess at having to be so blunt with people, people who for gawds sake should know before they type their application that the basic criteria for membership is ownership of a pre 1990 motorcycle. So please everyone, if someone asks you about us, warn em about me, if they make application without telling me of their OWNED pre 1990 motorcycle or worse NOT Having one at all. Keep em shiny side up folks. Caseye
You can't blame people for wanting to hang out with the BFTP crew...real motorcyclists who don't buy ther individuality over the counter from up the Khyber or that shop in Kent Terrace. Must be like the guys who sell their moden Triumphs in the Classic section of Trade Me........( I'm surprised you don't get them applying) 1/2 way with your tank BTW. :-)
Fair enough caseye, if they don't even have an old shitbox bike, what do they have to offer?
Oops double
They should have a pre 90 going or not, and if not, be able to ride with us on something else until the oldy is a goer. They jus wanna hang with the cool guys eh.............
Dadpole?
good one caseye.....if you don't keep them out we will be over run with Hyosung ...i guess the only caution is there are people with modern bikes who are working on/ rebuilding older bikes....and maybe want to join to get some advice....not sure i see anything wrong with that
Um, 'road legal' could be a bit touchy. Not all my old bikes are strictly road legal. Road worthy, yes. But legal includes rego
Gotta have some rules, even if not very many. Owning a qualifying bike seems one of the few good ones to enforce. I'm with you Caseye!
Ixion...there isn't any sort of legal.....or strictly not legal....there is legal or not..............I guess you could say the sum of the parts are legal.......
Gotta have some rules, even if not very many. Owning a qualifying bike seems one of the few good ones to enforce. fort this was the only real requirement !
Who/what is 'Blast From The Past ? We are a bunch of individuals who have a common interest, namely riding and sharing tales about our pre 90's motorcycles. Originating in Auckland there are BFTP groups sprouting up and doing their own BFTP rides NZ wide! HTML Code: Blah blah If you have a period bike (runner or project) please join us and tell us all about you and your bike/s. You will find that the group is morphing and establishing interesting self help and help share threads on a range of bike related matters (with particular emphasis on maintenance and restoration). .
Blah blah
Well said Wickle!!
maybe worth rewording the group agreed-upon-requirement for membership in the intro (as wickle pointed out) so it doesn't appear like it's the administrator personally turning people down, e.g. something like: "If you would like to join the group please apply for membership stating what BFTP qualifying bike(s) you own.", or similar wording?
Is it actually pre 90 or 70s and 80s ? technically scrap iron doesn't qualify under the latter, it's too past.
