what bike you think would lend itself well to be converted to a bobber, uhm... that is... to be "bobbed", if that's the expression?? lol

yes it needs to be bftp qualifying

i have most of another big gs and thought that might become Bobby one day but looking at the size of the big gs engine i am not all that convinced anymore. espec if i wanted to go with the forward controls.

    wotdya all think?

Bobber is rigid rear, yes? Early XV would be say task, looks like a rigid rear ( early ones were monoshock). In fact I got one in the garret that someone started and lost interest in .

    Bobber is rigid rear,yes?
uhm, not at my age, lol. i've been thinking of going monoshock, to retain the look but keep my spine in place. most bikes (bftp age) i had a look at seem to have enough room in front of the rear wheel at the swingarm to convert to monoshock. + i've never welded before so there's a challenge right there

xs650 is one of my favourite bikes of all time and is an obvious choice ... but maybe tooo obvious?

I have seen pictures of a few Jap multi bobber projects and also think the 4cyl is too wide to get the effect. Bobbers in my view are slim in profile so a single or narrow twin seems to suit the look and style. Deus do it well with the W650, and like Ixion suggested the XV would be narrow like a Hoggly but the VX engine sits quite high in the frame, it would be hard to get it looking nice and low unless you mounted an under seat fuel tank and electric fuel pump maybe.
    GN250?
Cheap as for the base bike..

There is a XV400 bobber in Napier, A mates son owns it.

It would go a while back so I had a look why, Major wiring faults since all the wiring was bunched up under the seat/lack of seat area and missing earth wires to reg/rec and CDI. Had smoke coming off the shorted wires and from the headlight shell and no fuses or fuse box

I think its been rewired now

Actually a rigid frame with a proper sprung saddle is quite easy on the spine. Those saddles ( Lycett were they?) Worked well

Yeah, sprung saddles were good, the bike just seemed to float under you.Never had a bike go completely out of shape with a sprung seat - lots of traction and you always know what the rear end is doing. Not like 300mm of soft suspension floating away down there.I like the idea of a Honda V twin, and the K400 would be a good starter too, they couldn't give them away a few years ago.

Hmmm... looks like it was only customised from the seat back

that xj1100 is HUGE and a gs would look the same, i've seen them. i alredy have a whale so would want to go a bit lighter, i think.

thanks for the pics dodgy & motu, i like both bikes, but can't tell what they are??

A mate showed me this yesterday. It has a Honda CB550 engine mounted inline with a hand-fabricated updraft inlet manifold, BMW 4-speed gearbox and Buell-style rim-mounted brake discs. Very clever . . .
