Reading Snowbum's novel on oil filter replacement makes you wonder why so many BMW's are still on the road.Last time I replaced the filter I thought it was all crap, but did the measurements anyway and deemed it all good....and my bike didn't blow up.Now I'm doing it again, and deem my measurement no good.(4mm). Do the tubes move? Is it important? Does someone have a shim?
As a soon to be Airhead owner can you please explain just what it is you're measuring and why?
Snowbums site is very informative but hard to read. The problem these days is too much information. And it gets cut and pasted so often it becomes fact. EG: all bevel drive ducatis have bad electrics. Myth: later bevel drive ducatis have bosch electrics, nippon denso instruments and japanese switchgear. I only found out a couple of years ago on Boxerworks that: a: the short wheelbase /5 handles badly ( after 60000kms of not knowing that) b: you should not put a sidecar on a /5 ( after 10 000kms up to the Artic Circle and an Elefant Treffen) C: you should only run ribbed tyres.....and so on...... Interestingly my mate crashed my /5 sidecar combo on the Rarimu Spiral, bent the forks....but the frame was fine....so that myth busted.

Of course I will expect no such problems when I take delivery of the R100 ....is it matt black....?
....is it matt black....? eeerrrrrrrrr actually I have no idea what colour it is, it is darkish though, be a month or two before I see it
I was so scared I fitted the shim.I can't believe that a 23 year old bike that has done 76,000km suddenly has a manufacturing tolerance issue that would cause it to self destruct.
You're making me paranoid, I think I'll just get one of these instead and enjoy the ease of spin on filters http://www.motoren-israel.com/produc...senfilter.html
