Hey all Im thinking of building a set of race rollers from a ford escort starter motor and a battery.I will obviously have to build a frame to hold it all.So if anyone has any ideas or experience with starter motors, race rollers etc Let me know. P.S You are all welcome to use them if it goes ahead.
Sounds like a cool idea to me. I don't have any ideas on how to make it happen though. Good luck and take photos to post on your progress
humm, this is a nice idea Ryan. hadn't though of using a car starter motor for that... I think you would need a 2:1 (maybe even a 3:1) reduction on the starter to final drive; to get the right RPM (~1500 which seems to be about the critical level). One of the guys i use to race with just used the front wheel of his civic parked up on rollers (as did most classic racers thinking about it)... gold star in the making
Yeah well my uncle is an auto electrician and my grandad is an aircraft engineer( speaking of witch ive spent the last three days with him putting 2 new cylinders that cost twenty thousand each on an aircraft only to find the camshaft had shat itself so we had to pull it out and send it away)so i have plenty of help if needed.Just need the right roller circumfrence and distance between each roller.
