I've just taken delivery of Rattis' spare Kawasaki to get it running in preperation for engine transplant into her number 1 machine. It clearly didn't want to leave the comfy garage, the front tyre was 1/2 flat and the front brake was seized on, took 3 of us to get it into the van. It was no easier getting it OUT of the van: sweatdrop. Having been caught out before, 1st job was to see what oil was like (it's been stood for a while). Took sump plug out and drained several litres of fairly clean, clear oil, and an O - ring Heavens knows where that came from ? I'm hoping it's come off the oil filter when somebody ' s changed it. Further investigation will hopefully solve the mystery. At the moment the carbs are of and getting cleaned. The old fuel as turned to goo so will give the jets etc a good clean. On the plus side, it does fire on at least 1 cylinder
1 out 0f 4 ain't bad Yorkie, that's almost a runner. I find on engines that have been sitting that the valve stems have rusted from condensation building up between the valve and guide, usually rears it's ugly head after you get it running and warmed up. Hopefully this one will escape that as anyone following behind my Ambassador will attest to the joys of a Batman style oil screen.
I want one of them oil screens thingys...instead of the Batmobile it'll have to be TheRatmobile.....thanks Dodgy! YOU've just inspired the name for him. ( see how I neatly shift the blame onto someone who lives miles away from me? ) Sorry about the difficulty getting it out of the shed. It's been there since we got it up from the South Island early in 2007.
Well, the stray o - rings' not off the oil filter. It looks new, not chewed up or anything. Probably just ignore if it runs without it
She sparks on all 4 pots now 4 new plugs and repair 1 HT lead and all sweet. I left the petrol pipe off the tank so I could check the vacuum tap was working, put $5 worth of petrol in whereupon it all ran straight out of the tap again. Well that answered that question ! Had tap apart, cleaned and back together, same result. Think Rattis' getting her own back for my bike seat.
I know the red tank works. QUite keen to have a Rat tank on it tho. Maybe I could get you to bash a dent in the red tank? SEriously. Still no good news re your seat. Today is the day to sort out the stapler. Even if I have to buy a hand stapler to do the bloody job I WILL NOT let the damned thing beat me. I am smarter than your average GS seat ( perhaps yours is above average? )
Hey Yorky do you need to come back and get the carbs off the red bike? or does that wait until your have peered up his bottom(end) and had his top off?
Think it's running fine now. Vacuum pipe was split.
hey Yorkie..any chance of a hurry up on the zed? Ducky is sick..very sick...ferkin terrible noise coming from somewhere. Lots of noise but no forward motion. she's right, only had to push it the last 20 or so metres of the toy run... Seriously tho, zed is urgent as id rather spend money on that than ducky.
Transmission belts Ratti?
Transmission belts Ratti? dont you mean rubber bands?
I was guessing CVT belt has shredded. Mechanic has just phoned to say its the "fixed driven half pulley of the rear clutch". Don't mean a lot to me to be honest Dodgy, but he suspects it may be the built in 'quirk' that Ities invariably have. and shockingly expensive to replace. why am I not suprised? Rubber bands? humph, how dare you cast aspersions on Ducky, and you seemed so taken with the lekky mainstand too. Shallow, thats what you are Wickle, shallow.... News from Yorky is good re the zed. Slight scoring in the barrels, they are away being tended to, new rings required and booked in for the transplant this weekend if the news is good from the boreing people...er if you know what I mean? That'll leave the suspension needing to be sorted and the rego to be paid..ouch. and hopefully on the road fairly soon. I guess that means I have to pull finger and do the seat? Really dont know what the problem is with duct tape, works for me.
Is there somewhere where interested folks can see a pickie of the said Kwaker ?
talk to Yorky. I can provide pics of the other 2. One in pieces scattered about the shed,{ I really need to work out how to get the bloody frame off the roof strut,} and one in semi entire state. Im hoping to find a tank that is bigger. Dont care what it looks like, as long as I can get considerably more than 100miles out of it I'll be happy. Sodding hundred mile tanks, what the heck is that all about anyway?
what the heck is that all about anyway? It is about form over function
