After some beers on the Saturday night during the last rally in Stratford the assembled crew were discussing an NZ tour focussing mainly on the South Island.
The loose plan is to have about 10 days, at the end of each day to have accomadation booked at different locations so members from those areas can join in or at least have an idea where we will be at each evening to meet up and perhaps come along for the next day or whatever suits.
The proposed month was going to be late October early November.
I would like to suggest being in the SI by labour weekend and going from there mainly because there is a rally at Nelson that weekend.. more details to follow on that.

The other thing was to get a few touristy stuff done while we were there so some suggestions on that, and a shout out on who is up for the main part of the trip and from those around the country who might like to join in for part of the trip.

We will have a map study and clashing of the BFTP brains trust over the weekend of the Pukekohe Classics ()to get a rough idea of places to go then I will start to get places to stay that coincide with those areas and list them so interested parties can book in.

Having a place to stay at the end of each day and the ferry either way was the only thing I thought we should lock in. The rest we can play on the fly dependant on weather and all the other variables these big road trips throw up

    So who's in?
I know all 6 of the crew on the last rally were murmuring interest, or was it just the beer?

I'm keen. I think it would be an awesome trip.

Here's a complication for me though, which was announced during dinner on Sunday evening: my son announced that he and his partner have decided to get married Oct/Nov next year, probably over Labour weekend. I'm probably expected to make an appearance for the service.

So, apart from the inconvenient clash of timing, I'm also wondering how much of an impact the wedding will have on my fragile finances. I doubt I'd be able to afford both a wedding and a SI trip.

P.S. Wasn't one of the ideas we kicked around a plan to incorporate the Burt Munro rallly into the trip?

Burt Munro- yes. It was. That is in the last week of November.
I thought that time might be a bit busy for some, if it is not then that is fine.

It's the 21st century, if they want to get married, they design a wedding within their buget not yours.

Man I hope the missus gets a job, so I can get the GS on the road!
Sounds like it would be a great adventure......
While I know that from a leave point of view Labour weekend is better, my suggestion would be for around the time the Burt Munro is on, the 'Magpie madness' rally is traditonally on the weekend before the BM, and the Chatto Creek 1000 is normally on the weekend after.
But if labour weekend is the go I am pretty sure the Greymouth street races are during Labour weekend......

It sounds great and I'm keen as in that way I could make up for all the lost milage in the last 3 years when Bruno was down for repairs (or I was...) .

I would struggle though to have to do long day trips from place to place if the weather turned cold , so the later in the year the better as far as I'm concerned. I guess I'm not that hard-core any more

The other thing is that I couldn't take more than a week off work.

But appart from the above, I'm keen as

    Hi Kiwi!
Good input, thanks for that. You must know we were thinking of you for this one eh?

It only gets cold after about 4pm Psy, you will be fine Auntie Wickle will tuck you in well before then. And if you can't take a week off work without the old high powered rifle and water tower syndrome happening, who cares? You will be out of town anyway and it will give you good material for doing a book- look at the money that dude made on the Bain book...

Nah mate, we is more hard core than those wuss's. Some of us even think we can tent it.
You haven't met those dudes from the HB, they is really hard core except for the reliable Jappas that is mumble mumble..clean hands...mutter mutter... no oil pack... rusty tools ..grumble brumble..

I would check the pricing for ferries etc if looking at labour weekend. The final of the Rugby World Cup is that weekend and I bet there will be some HIGH pricing over the September October period in total. late November may be better

Count me in for this lads.

Bring the old bikes though. Remember the fun of the old days with bikes exploding in the middle of nowhere leaving you to improvise. The locals you met who offered to help by letting you share Grandpas bed. The thrill of sliding through the oil left on the road as the bike in front had an 'event'.
I don't remember those things, but then, I never had a Eurobike...
