Hello all, my name's Chris. I ride an old Bandit at the moment just to get back into riding after a break of about 5 years (gave it up after moving over here from the UK). Not exactly a classic but it's good everyday bike. Well the reason I wanted to join BFTP is because I'm very keen on Jap classics and once I've moved house (or maybe before if finances/girlfriend allow), I'd like to get hold of a Z1 or Z650, something which runs but needs some work - I love tinkering with bikes. I have some experience of restorations, I had a friend in the UK who was an engineer and we rebuilt a GS550 together, which taught me a lot. And I also had a GT250 which was sadly stripped for parts. I can't remember any of these bikes when they were first around because I'm only 31, but while I find any bike interesting, I prefer the aesthetics of classic bikes to modern machines (with a few exceptions, which are no doubt going to be classics themselves one day). Anyway, I thought it would be good to keep an eye on the goings-on here and hopefully learn a bit about the classic bike scene in NZ, like where to source parts and where to get stuff done etc.
Welcome to the loony bin I'm from England as well. Where abouts are you now ? If you're down Wellington way at all send me a PM. We 're a very friendly bunch and there are even a few working bikes
Welcome to our own little corner of the asylum. I am just down the road from you, on the Pahiatua track. PS: My bike is not (currently) working - thanks yorky..
C'mon you're working on it . Hi cbfb.
Welcome along to part of Kiwi Biker thats like an old uncle at Christmas.....boring old stories and dribble. My bike is too unworking at the moment.....
Although I don't know anything about bikes cbfb, I do have a runner!
Welcome Chris. There's a good mix of makes at BFTP, with plenty of support for Jap classics. There's a few Z1's around, so good luck with your search. Some of us live and breath GS's. Feel free to get in touch for any tech advice/support, should you decide to venture down that path again. Cheers
Hi Chris, I am also from Woodville, currently got a K100RS and an '85 GSXR750, have owned over 50 bikes over the years, only a couple of them have been newer than 1990, old ( though many of them were near new when I owned them) bikes get into your blood. I have to agree, the modern bike is boring, the older bikes have more character.
Welcome Chris, We love tinkering with old bikes, it is impossible not to sometimes. Even if they don't need it. And I always have a runner because it ain't just a hobby to me - it's transport first and foremost, the old clunkers have to earn their keep around my place or else they get threatened with the crusher I'm riding back from the Hutt on Monday morning heading north, look out for the oil slick Regards, Dodgy Mike.
I'm riding back from the Hutt on Monday morning heading north Don't forget piccys and a road report for us off the road types....
I can intercept him and gather evidence if I have a time and place.
A box brownie should be able to capture the action without bluring....assuming you have them yet?
.........
welcome cbfb! good luck with your search for a classic bike, but i'd say keep the bandit as well. nothing worse than having the bike down for repairs and no runner to use on a beautiful day... ask me how i know... (have become a bit of an "expert" on that, lol)
Welcome Chris, Your right about Old bikes, I have a Duke Monster and prefer to ride my old RD350LC. Even tho the Duke is fun there is just something it hasnt got that the LC has. Must to be about time to do a Castle Point ride, Would be good to get the Welly, Manawatu and HB BFTP team together
