An Introduction

  1. Bill Alexander
    Hi Folks,
A quick note to introduce myself. I joined the BFTP about 18 month ago but have not had a bike to ride until just before Christmas when I completed (not quite true there are still a few finishing touches to come) restoring my 78 GS1000. Just when I was beginning to visit the BFTP and take a greater interest I was culled. I asked to be let back in and here I am.

I have been using the bike pretty much daily and over the Christmas break made a few excursions out of town (oh, I live in Auckland central). My wife is a keen pillion and so when I go anywhere over the weekend it is more than often 2 up.

I have been keeping an eye out for opportunities to go on some group rides (unfortunately I had prior comitments on Sunday and couldn't consider that one) and have a couple of mates I am looking to ride with in the next little while. I am really enjoying this summer and any excuse for a ride is being exploited but it can be difficult to fit around everything else.

If you are interested in the background of my bike and the restoration I have made an attempt to document it at http://homepages.woosh.co.nz/landroverparts/.

I will be visiting BFTP as often as I can and looking to take part in rides that I can. I am not a great one for this online chatter in forums so I may seem a bit quiet to some of you. I will try to particpate when it seems I can make a worthwhile contribution.

Now i have to make tracks, it is full tide at Pt Chev and I need a dip on the way home.
    All the best
    Bill

Welcome Bill. Don't worry about having to be on here all the time. Just pop in now and again to let us know you are still alive.

I have had a look at your site. That Thou looks nice and I hope to eyeball it in the flesh sometime. There are a couple of HB types that will, no doubt, give you the run down on how to make it faster. Have you had a look at the Oldskoolsuzuki site? Real food for thought there..

Giday Bill. Nice to hear we have another GS in the fold.

    Wickle has an '80 GS1000 and also a 1000G.

    I run an 850 and an 1150.

Looking forward to catching up at a future BFTP ride. Are you interested in doing the Burt Monroe in November?

Contribute when you can. No point in drivel such as, "as he said".

Howdy Do This is starting to look like the 'Zuki appreciation society. I plead guilty to a rough GS550 but the swinging arm and seat are concourse standard.

    Thanks for the welcome guys,
I don't get all precious about the brand thing - it so happens I have only ever owned Suzukis but that is purely a matter of chance - there are are number of other brands/models I would happily own

It is just too hard too keep a bike pristine and use it. Already had some mishaps and got some nicks and scratches. Much more fun riding then cleaning and polishing. Actually the biggest anoyance has been spilling petrol on the tank and having it eat into my clear coat

Are you interested in doing the Burt Monroe in November?
I am very keen to get to a Munroe sometime but doubt I can realistically fit it in this year

you do realize how elusive that chrome tail trim is?
You mean that "chrome" plastic around the tail light ? I think I read something about it being uncommon but have never noticed. (My spare tail piece has it too)

Yup, that bit. They all had them when new but over time became very rare... (same story with the 850G's and 1100G's)
