Tried this out today on the Norton....now I remember why its sat unused for the last 8 years.....
its a clear spark plug and the idea is you adjust the richness/poorness and it changes from yellow flame to blue one........
Must be like those Henrob welders....
ended up by doing the traditional way....shagging about with it till it idled... and the sliders lifted at the same time......twin carbs.....they look good.....saying that I'd never fit a jap carb to a Bwiddish bike....it just not done....and the Queen would not approve.

They only work on the idle circuit becaue you can't rev it as they will blow. Stop pissing about and buy one of these:

I've got 2 of them,so I can set twin carbs without swapping the Colortune (notice the correct spelling).Bet mine have sat for longer than 8 years unused.I think ears work far better than eyes when set an idle mixture - you can get a nice yellow rich mixture with the Colourtune (notice the incorrect spelling),any leaner than that and you move out of sight and into sound.

    This garden universe vibrates complete.
Some we get a sound so sweet.
Vibrations reach on up to become light,
And then thru gamma, out of sight.
Between the eyes and ears there lay,
The sounds of colour and the light of a sigh.
And to hear the sun, what a thing to believe.
But it's all around if we could but perceive.
    To know ultra-violet, infra-red and X-rays,
Beauty to find in so many ways.
Two notes of the chord, that's our fluroscope.
But to reach the chord is our lifes hope.
And to name the chord is important to some.
So they give a word, and the word is UMMM?.

The merkins on the XJ forum are in love with those colortune things

First thing I'd do if I ever had any British bike would be through the carbs away and fit Mikunis, I'd do it on the Ducati to if it was in more regular use

Changing the carbs are not even on my to do list....I'm more concerned about binning anything with Lucas on it......Star Wars toys......out you go....
set it up by sound and feel....will do for new....until dodgy drags out the Exhaust Gas Analyser....

Hmm, used to be true until the rights to Amal were bought up a couple of years ago and they started to remanufacture them with proper materials and with stringent quality control and a few little 'tweaks' to ensure they actually work. Personally I love the look of the remote bowl Amal carbs, and nothing says GP like the Amal GP- all this coming from someone with a Mikuni on 'is pommy bike
It was there when I got here, 'onest Gov'ner

They only work on the idle circuit!!! You can not jet a bike using these as the first time you rev it to get on the main jet they blow, bang for your buck never rang as true

i tried the colortune but felt very dumb ...
i set the mixture by the colortune spark color - but the bike didn't seem to idle smoothly.
then i set the idle by ear and was happy with it but then the colortune wasn't showing the right spark color.

    whatever..

I used to have a Colortune . Then some cunt stole it. I never missed it.

As for those who fit Jap crabs to Briddish iron- we just leave a revolver on the table in their tent, with a single round in it. And hope that they are not so totally dead to human decency as not to do the Right Thing . If they are, we'll form up in hollow square and force them to try and kick start a Gold Star with a defective mag until they die of exhaustion.

(But Henrob torches are the schnittz)
