I want to make some new gearchange linkages for a few of the bikes, they are all worn in the joints and have old bent shafts that have been straightened and genaraly look preety shabby. I have got some new right and left hand thread rose joints, all I need is some shafts Can you buy pre threaded left hand shafts and cut a right hand thread on the other end? or can you buy a left hand Die nut and make the whole new shaft? I havn't been to any engineering suppliers yet, was going to do the rounds in the morning
You can get left hand die nuts or buy left hand cap screws and weld them to the other end of the shaft, or depending on how long it needs to be from memory a FXR gear change linkage was $28 when I stuffed one
Cool, I like the cap screw idea, get a 8mm shaft and drill a 6mm hole in it in the lathe to put the shank of the cap screw in it. I want to make new linkages for my road LC, Road TZR, make a longer one for the to be built TZR/RZ350 rearsets, and make a race change for Tylers KR150. The KR has a fiddly litte linkage, the levers pivots off the engine and has a offset linkage that only 40mm long I will see what lenght cap screws I can get and what left hand Dies are worth
If left hand dies are too expensive, since it is a shaft get someone to cut the thread on a lathe.
just turn it around the other way.....
just turn it around the other way..... I need left and right threads , hard to adjust with out undoing rose joints or taking the linkage off. Some of the original joints are still good and have no wear in them too, Had no joy finding any bolts, cap screws and dies this mornining. No engineering shops open. Didn't worry about Mega 10 or any other "we sell evertything" shops. a good job for Monday lunchtime
Left hand Die nuts about $50 I tried 3 suppliers for left hand cap screws, no go, and they had a ring around other suppliers too ( not the ones where I had already been) Went to the Bike shop, they hanv't been a wreckers for years but I had a scrounge around upstairs and found some remains of old linkages. There is a few sets of Multi carbs there too, GS, Kwaka, XJ, and a GT380. Tanks are way up in the ceiling cavity, all sorts of old stuff. I said I would go thru them and do a stocktake and post what is there for him
Way to go Jase. Some bike shops must have gold (by our standards) tucked away on dusty shelves. I should go into Tony Jury in Pahiatua to see what they have out the back.
Some bike shops must have gold (by our standards) tucked away on dusty shelves. Kingsland Honda has a set of shelves with thousands of Honda sales brochures - the single paged colour ones they used to promote bikes in the 70s. They now sell for between 20 and 40 bucks each on trademe/ebay. Lloyd said kids were coming in and asking for them and for a while he gave them away, then cottoned on to that fact the crafty buggers were selling them. Does anyone know what original PVC wet weather gear is worth - because there's plenty of that hanging around in that shop too.
WOW Lloyd can use a computer???? he don't take Eftpost and does hand written invoices on paper!!!!!. Why does't Lloyd flog that place it must be worth a mill easy......what is it with old people.... could rent it out for $$$$ during the Rugby...." only 5 minutes to Eden Park.....throwing up distance...
Does anyone know what original PVC wet weather gear is worth I still have a 1 piece set around here somewhere!!!
No. Lloyd can't use a computer - that's why he still has thousands of dollars worth of stuff lying around just waiting to be put on ebay. Not just the brochures either. There's a big warehouse/garage under the shop too. My son knew someone who had been in there a few years back and it was full of old motor scooters. It just shows how much a man can amass without a wife to waste all his assets on makeup and shoes.
There are loads of them blokes around. A few years ago I was on the fringe helping an old bloke sort out his stuff...... old junk like a 1929/30 Brough Superior 680 Black Alpine in good nick but not running, various 20's Nortons in various states in including 2 OHC ones, a V4 Matchless, a v twin Marchless....Douglas flat trackers and boxes and boxes of stuff.....My mate and I watched in dismay as the vultures swept in ....... he got 35k for the Brough which at the time I thought was ok..... a well known Norton man bought all the Nortons for not a lot..... the rest was pounced on. Oddly his Son was not interested in getting involved. My mate bought a Rex Acme off him.....hes a Junior hoarder... I plan on flogging stuff to fund my retirement....the kids can buy their own shit.....hence buying and riding kick start Brits while I still can kick them over.

I really, really want to respond to this, but the fact that my wife intermittently scans these pages (along with a modicum of prudence) prevents me from commenting . . .
Has he got any CBX750 shocks in his "big warehouse/garage"?
