I went along to the monthly meeting in Penrose, good turnout of older bikes with a few modern retros that are the daily riders. Probably about 50 odd members there, plus about three of us 'youff' members... Reports on Rally in Otago and a couple of guys took their 1920's Harleys the round trip of 2000 miles. I met up with a bloke on a 69 Bonnie who I bought a head off on TM and he likes to take his Bonnie out for a good thrash....not the " turn left at the nest T junction" Their main focus is on these rallys as it suits the aging demograph...... Gotta wonder about the future of these clubs as time goes on and the price of old cars and bikes gets higher. Hard enought for young peeps ( see I'm hip...er random) to pay of student loans....get a house ( yeah right) let alone buy old playthings. The ladies put on afternnoon tea and there was baking. Then my phone went off and I had to go and see if IBM's Data centre was OK....it was and so was the pint of Yeasty Boys at Galbraiths. Going to the VCC club was like an internet forum but with faces, tea and .....baking...........
What, and they, like, ackchilly talk to each other using words and stuff? Weird.
I have been meaning to go along to the Waikato classic bike club meeting sometime too. They meet in Hammy and have rides out here and rallys etc.. Dunno if they have baking though. They have scored a good URL though> http://www.classicbikes.co.nz/ They list the Hamilton swap meet as the largest motorcycle swap meet in NZ. How friggin' sad is that? I would have thought the South Island would have a larger one because they do motorcycle stuff heaps better down there. All the good rallys are in the SI.
What puts me off is the meeting go on for an hour or so talking about their rallys that I have no interest in. I put me off ten years ago and it does not encourage me to go along still. They have a huge workshop at the back but I don't think it ever gets used. The Waikato one looks good...but its too far away for me....spose I could put the bike in the van or on a trailer......
Few of us took our postie bikes a long a year or so back and had a little talk to the masses. I took the TZ750 and made sure it had gas in it. I gave the guys a bit of history on F750 and the 750's and after the other guys had a talk we pushed the bikes outside and bumped them down the road and made some noise....went down rather well. But yep the age of bikes they are looking at is a bit earlier than I'm regularly into (though I do speak most makes and ages. Al
