I have an HJC which produces a lot of excessive and uncomfortable wind roar. The Beemer has a fairing on which I have tried both high and low screens and the VTR has a small bikini screen. Both have the same effect. So the helmet is the culprit as the fairing has been on the Beemer for 32 years and previous helmets have been okay. I always ride with wax mouldable ear plugs. But helmets are constantly evolving and helmets I liked years ago are no longer made. I really cannot keep buying and trying helmets, so any recommendations anyone? I don't want one that needs me to sell the bike to pay for it either. The safety factor is pretty good with all approved helmets regardless of cost but the accoustics is my mission at the moment.
I too have an HJC helmet and even with molded Plugs 4 lugs earplugs I still get the wind noise. Less of a problem on the naked bikes...
Schuberth R1, world's quietest helmet guaranteed. The only helment maker to list it's dB rating at 92. Everyone else says their lid is quiet, Schuberth gaurantee it. I had one and it was the best lid ever, comes with pull down optically correct fighter pilot stlye tinted inner visor. Very light weight, with Ze German quality. But if your in the Buget range of an HJC you might shit yourself when you find out what a quality helmet costs As always, you get what you pay for. I bought a Carberg after the Schuberth did battle with a boat and lost, it was half the price, and half as good

Yep, but only after I sold the bike did I break even.. I was hoping the dork would buy me another lid. I ordered it and he was supposed to pick it up and pay for it, then strangely he dissapeared? I did tell him it was going to be over a grand. It was my fault for letting him have his bike back before getting me my new lid.
I have found the sound proofing factor of a helmet also depends a lot on its inner shape and how that fits YOUR particular head shape (especially around the ears). I have tried expensive helmets with supposedly good sound proofing only to find that while they would overall fit in shape and size (of my head) there was too much room around the ears area and that got the wind noise right up. Now I look for the best fit in a helmet as I recon that counts for a lot when testing for the actual (personal) sound proofing.
Previous helmets owned have been AGV, Kiwi, Bieffe, Bell etc. Whilst Schubeth seem to be the only ones who promote their soundproofing, I have no knowledge of "new" brands such as Shark, Nolan etc but some of these are in the same price ball park as HJC. Schubeth is about $750 which is a bit dear. Maybe I will go back to AGV and hope.
try this website for some ok infomation http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...le-helmets.htm I found it helpful when buy mine if the net last year got two for the price of one and the reviews were quite accurate
I have a 25% hearing loss - what does helmet noise sound like?
what HJC model do you have? I've had a few, the AC11 and FG14 I had wasn't to bad but I have tried the RPHA-10 which is considerably better, also lighter with way better ventilation It will be the next helmet I buy
Try one of these for size http://www.forbesanddavies.co.nz/pro...71-ffm_m9.aspx I like my one, fitted really nice, heaps quieter than any other helmet I have had, removable inner pads (handy when they get stinky and sweaty), Good protection........ I tested it a Taupo......will post some pics. Will get another one, I tried lots of helmets with some huge price differences and didnt find any as comfortable as the M9. Like Psy says, I think the wind noise has alot to do with the helmet being a good fit
The Schuberth is $1150 and it is guaranteed. If you think it is too loud you can take it back
That site provided by ICE ( above) is brilliant. Whilst Schuberth are possibly the ultimate in helmets their R1 does not rate well and their S1 which is for sale on TM for $750, does. However AGV looks as if it will fit the bill at half the price. The HJC ( according to the website) has problems with drumming with several of their models. Mine is an CS-10 and it is excessively noisy. The website does not detail many makes and models available in NZ and you could spend ( waste) a lot of time on this subject. I will not be spending $1150 on a helmet when the major content is the currency exchange.
I think a pommy site is doing run-outs of the R1.. I should get another one really. Like you I am dissatisfied with my current lid and pine for my loverly Schuberth. RD Jase Like Psy says, I think the wind noise has alot to do with the helmet being a good fit That could be just his pony tail flapping
this is where I brought mine helmets from took 3 weeks to get here ordered on 27 dec cost was $40NZD for 2 helmets with DHL http://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf/...dhelme-Helmets and buy the looks they are $551 NZD so a good buy from them This is quite a neat thing to listen too as well http://www.schuberth.com/index.php?id=78&L=0start.html
