GTX is cheap.

Repco has GTX 20-50 for $25,a good cheap oil for our old dungers. It's SN rated now, which doesn't mean much to a 20-50 as they would never be used in any vehicle required to pass an emission or fuel economy test.I've just put it into both my daughter's cars, and might pick up a couple more to see the R65 through the next decade.

Gulf Western is good,I've still got some Top Dog 15-40 to use up.It's harder to find something good in a 20-50,most are aimed at the oil burner, and probably better than what was available in the '80's,but good is better. Not saying GTX is the best oil you can buy,but in the 20-50 range it's pretty good.

Should suite the R65 well Motu. GTX use to be available in bulk through the Ohakea Engineering club. I Guess that's why Gerties lasted so long.

Bought a couple yesterday when I picked up the new diaphrams for the R65's carbies. I get so frustrated with people in what is not really a retail job with a retail mindset. Ripco sell a lot more than wiper blades and oil packs but do the staff know the difference between a CV carb and a downdraft? No they do not, it takes giving them several whacks over the head with the parts book before they will listen
Then you have to take the parts book off them and find it yourself and read out the part number so they can type it in the computer
    "Computer says no..."
    "You do stock them..."
    "What was the number again.."

The Ripco diaphragms work OKl in my experience. Haven't had a need to use their diaphragms for a while now, since got the R90S back on the road with its fine Dell'Orto carburytooters, but they should be fine for most purposes.

They worked fine on the R100, did both carbs. The R65 I am yet to road test but I am sure they will be fine too.

The kids at Repco can't even look up a car by make, model, chassis and engine number anymore - they ask for the rego, and when you tell them you don't know they go into freak out mode.I have to help them go through the process.

I've got spare diaphragms - that means I'll never ever need them.
